I'm beginning to think Topamax does cause anxiety. I have used Topamax on two occasions for migraines. I had abdominal pain and diahrea. Still the doctor wanted me to give it another try. I started again in Aug 2007. I was told the side effects would get better. Tingling hands and feet, memory loss and stomach problems were my major complaint. Over time I began to think I had serious stomach problems. After a few bites of food, I felt sick. A situation that caused stressin my life, seemed to cause my symptoms to become worse. I could not eat at all. I lost weight rapidly and began to have rapid heartbeat in my abdomen, chest and head. My evening dose of Topamax would wake me up several hours later with diahrea and heart palpitations. I felt like I had the flu. I lost 8 pounds in one week and looked sickly. This brought my total weight loss to 20 pounds. I decided to take myself off the Topamx slowly. My stomach started to feel better right away. My family doctor gave me Zantac, anxiety medication and Zoloft. This was in May. I still have what sounds like anxiety symptoms. I've stopped taking the Zoloft (and the other meds) because there was no improvement in the headaches, not the mention the total loss of libido. I never use to have anxiety issues or heart palpitations. Now I'm always wondering what's wrong with me. I'm still waiting for my appointment with the neurologist. After reading these posts, I fear Topamax has really messed me up and did NOT do anything for my headaches.
Southernred3,
When I started to lose weight after my Docs said all the trial period "should" be over, w/ Topamax up to 200mg / day approx. 18 mnths after the 1st Topamax pill was ever ingested I was told it had caused me to have what is called CHEMICAL ANOREXIA I had lost 68 lbs in 60 days this was the time span in which I had had 2 seperate Dr appts. The response from this Dr, was" well you wanted to lose a little weight, didn't ya? I weighed at that time 118lbs I am 5'8". I looked like death warmed over. Plus, I had just come off of Depakote, in which blew me up by 50 lbs over and I lost that on my own. Well, my mother is Italian and my husband is a Chef, you can imagine how quickly My doctor was fired! We all "do" need to remember the doctor works for us not the other way around. I just thought I would let you know your not alone and good luck to you!!!
The eye pain can be a sign of a serious problem; it's listed in the patient and physician info. If you're still having it, it's important that you see an eye doctor right away, in case you're having a problem that could cause permanent loss of vision. Just make sure to let the eye doctor know that you're on Topamax, so that if you have the problem, they think about stopping the medication instead of unnecessary eye surgery.
hey honey u better get to the eye dr. u could have acute glycoma, that is one thing the psyche told me if ur eyes start hurting or redness or vision changes, immediately go to optimologist or a hopital with one. it is emergency......i dont know how to spell glycoma whatever u know what i am saying
