I am scheduled to get Mirena tomorrow and after reading this will call and cancel! I went off the pill five days ago in preparation for Mirena and haven't felt this good in years! My doctor recommended Mirena and said she even uses it herself. But I'm super sensitive, can't even tolerate anything but the minimal dose BC pill because my breasts are cystic and hurt all the time. I am certain I would get all the terrible side effects you all are describing, I am the type who's prone anyway, and from what I see hear, this is NOT for me. THANKS.

I have never posted a message on a board but I think you should hear some good stories too before cancelling appointment. I am super sensitive to hormones and the pill made me a mad woman! I am on my 2nd mirena (I'm 31 so have been using it 6 years) I think it's amazing. I feel none of the side effects that I did with the pill, my doctor says this is because the hormone is released into the uterus instead of the bloodstream. I have no side effects whatsoever, i forget it's there until someone asks what birth control we use. 3 of us in the same office use it, I don't have any kids yet, a colleague in her mid 40s with 3 kids, and a colleague in her mid 30s with 2 young kids and we all think it's great even though we're at very different stages. I was so relieved to find something reliable that worked. It's unpleasant getting it inserted, and there was spotting for a few weeks after, but it is 2 minutes discomfort and a couple of weeks of light spotting in return for up to 5 years of birth control.
