I was searching for a site with the side effects of Singulair for my son who is 10 and has been taking Singulair since he was 2. It was a life-saving drug for him and his life has been wonderful since then (as far as asthma goes). He is a very athletic boy who plays every sport he can and he is still a little overweight with cellulite and love handles. I had heard that maybe it might be the Singulair so I decided to check it out. Little did I know about all of these other side effects. He's been taking it for so long that I assumed his depressed personality was just the way he was. He has also had such horrific nightmares and he's convinced he has a ghost in his room that shakes his bed that I was really starting to consider that maybe he might. His brother sleeps in the same room and does not have any of these experiences (also on Singulair). I am SHOCKED! I only read about 20 entries but I'm going to read more. Has anyone had the weight gain problem? Thank you for anything you can share.

Some people do report weight gain (especially see earliest entries), but that seems to be the least of his problems with the drug!! I'd be concerned about depression and ghosts. . .

I HAD TWO CHILDREN ON SINGULAR AND THEY BOTH HAVE SCAREY NIGHTMARES. MY SEVEN YEAR OLD HAD HIS DOSE INCREASED TO TEM MGS AND I HAVE ALWAYS VBEEN AFRAID TO KEEP GIVING IT TO HIM. SINCE THEN I HAVE FOUND A NEW ALLERGIST AND OUR SEVEN YEAR OLD WHO SUFFERS FROM ALOT OF ALLERGIES AND DUST MITE ALLERGUINS AND EZCAME WAS TAKEN OFF SINGULAR. MY FOUR YEAR OLD IS STILL ON SINGULAR HOWEVER AND IT HAS TO BE A NIGHTIME REGIEM I WAS TOLD. I HAD BEEN GIVING IT IN THE MORNING FROM THEIR PREVIOUS ALLERGIST. I WANT TO KNOW IF THE SCARY DREAMS ARE A PART OF SINGULAR AS A CONCERNED MOTHER. I ALSO HAVE WEIGHT ISSUES WITH MY CHILDREN NOT KNOWING IF ITS MEDICATION OR THE KIDS WANTING TO SNACK ALL THE TIME. PLEASE RESPOND TO MY EMAIL IF THERE ARE ANY THOUGHTS OR ANSWERS FOR ME. MY FOUR YEAR OLD IS ON A LOWER DOSE NOW. IT WAS FIVE MG, I THOUGHT BECAUSE OF HIS WEIGHT. SINCE THEN THE NEW DOCTER HAS HIM ON FOUR MG AT NIGHT, AND I AM STILL AFRAID. THANK YOU. MY EMAIL IS Kmary101@aol.com

my niece took singular and experienced weight gain. My sister said she always looked "puffy". She took her off the medication and the puffiness is gone. My son takes singular in the fall season. He just started taking it again in August. I am starting to notice a change in his demeanor. He also says he is having nightmares. I am considering taking him off it also.

I just started research after speculation for over year. The drs. have said their is no weigh gain side effect. My son is almost 11 and on it for 2.5 yrs. He has that face puffiness and weight gain. It is a self esteem problem now with other kids, he gets teased. He's not fat, but chunky now. He too is an active athletic boy, and hates not being to run fast now. We have just thought is was his diet, but we monitor it and it is a great diet for kids he has. I am thinking about taking it off of it now. His Asthma is mild too.

I guess I should talk to his Dr.. I think it okay to just stop cold turkey, but I am not sure. He is moody and acts like a hormonal middle schooler and he is only 10!

My son is 10 too, almost 11. He is athletic and like to be outside, not a gamer much. His weight has become a problem in the last 2 yrs. I have asked the Dr. about Singulair and weight and they always, deny the side effects. So now I am finally researching and finding all this stuff! Ugh! He gets teased at school and hates being over weight. He really is not big, just husky. It is a self esteem problem now. He has the puffy face, he never had before when I look at old pictures. He too thinks there is a ghost under his bed and sleeps with covers over his head ever night. Wow, I feel terrible. Can we just go cold turkey with Singulair? His asthma is mild and only bad when he has a cold.

Help!
