To anyone new to this site whose child is on Singulair and having problems consistent with the adverse reactions to Singulair documented on this site: take your child to the doctor as soon as possible and tell them you believe that your child is having an adverse reaction to the drug. Do not let yourself be talked into believing that Singulair does not have these side effects. Too many of us right here can confirm that it does. Even though the prescribing information for this drug has been updated to include a warning about these adverse effects, and the FDA is conducting an investigation into the safety of this drug, not all doctors are aware and some are simply unwilling to believe. If you hear "anecdotal evidence", "highly unlikely," or "I've never seen it happen" uttered during your visit, know that your doctor is making excuses for not knowing accurate information about this drug. Doctors may attribute your child's behavior to their personality or developmental stages. But any child on Singulair should be removed from the drug if a consistent pattern of different or abnormal behavior is present. Most children do not fly off the handle for no reason, have night terrors, prolonged, violent temper tantrums, and act anxious, angry, sad, hateful, disconnected, or withdrawn most of the time. Most children do not have behavior problems that consistently leave you feeling like the worst parent in the world and completely mentally exhausted at the end of each and every day. Tell your doctor that you want them to prescribe another asthma maintanence medication with a documented low risk of side effects. If your doctor trivializes your concerns or refuses to honor your request, FIND A NEW DOCTOR! YOU are the expert on your child, not someone who sees them a few times a year for a few minutes at a time. After Singulair has been stopped, watch for a positive change in behavior over the course of several weeks. Make sure you have rescue medications on hand in case needed. Most importantly, GO WITH YOUR GUT. "If something doesn't feel right, then something ain't right!"

Well stated!! It is so important to get the word out about the disabling/devastating side effects children can experience while on singulair. Every parent should be well informed before giving there child this medication. No one should have to take this drug being in the dark as to what the side effects might be.

I posted a very serious reaction and all the side effects to that awful
mind altering and destructive drug back in August. My son has suffered needlessly like so many other of our children and all we ever got was --it sure helped his asthma and maybe there are other issues. Our dear son suffered horrrific nightmares and some hallucinations--and I know only induced from this nasty drug. I also reported to the FDA--of course --no reply. Also, stomach aches, leg pains and joint pains...not normal for our son. Brain fog and memory loss also a big thing...and anger..so sad..
Again, he has some some ashtma problems and usual teen sore throats. Well today, at his doctor I reiterated the terrible and scary repercussions from "this ashtma prevenatation and allergy" pill. This time ==silence and possible notations.. When will this stop.?? I have 4 boxes of samples of Singulair--(given this Summer when I couldn't afford the $199.99 monthly charge for 30 pills) Maybe a Merck Rep. would like to try it for their loved ones or themselves..for a couple of months...and tell us it must be something else--not this great med that is causing children to become aggressive, hopeless on life and just want to throw in the towel...I really wonder..why is their such a cover-up. I thank God every night that I have my sweet and getting back to reality son--not a depressed and angry young adolescent which he demonstrated for over 1 and 1/2 years..I tried to understand what was going on in his life and then I woke up--it was a little chewable tablet called Singulair which loves to rob our children of their lives and exuberance. Our son had a real nightmare about 3 weeks
ago and was screaming and banging the walls- bringing a beautiful picture down--thank God he wasn't hurt..but he asked the next morning--what happened.here--I believe in my heart their are long term side effects--so please watch your children and love them dearly. An suggestions for alternative med for Ashtma not cortisteriods which are much too scary for us at this time. Thanks.
