I had a friend just like you! Did your doc ever test you for Hashimotos with the two antibodies labs? Because for some people, if you have Hashimotos, the smaller amounts of thyroxine make the attack on your thyroid far worse, with symptoms similar to yours. You have to raise the Thyroxine FAR higher in order to stop the attack, believe it or not. Even better would be getting on desiccated thyroid. Armour is one brand name, as is Naturethroid. I highly recommend that you google Stop the Thyroid Madness. It's a site that has changed a lot of lives, including mine. I also got the book by the same name and it's even better.
Thanks for your reply. I would be very nervous about taking even more!! I don't know if I could do it.I have had a look at the site and it is very interesting and informative. What actually is hashimotos's ? I think I need to do a whole lot more reading.
I have stopped the tablets and my doctor wants to test me again in 6 weeks to see whats happening as he thinks I may be going hyper. he has suggested that migh high readings may have just been a blip? My TSH was 34 then after a month of 50mg went down to 7 he doubled it. Then my last reading was 0.6 but I had stopped taking it 3 days before the test?? Doctor is baffled:(
Thanks again for replying.
I understand that tyroxine has a 7 day half life...that is it would still be in your 'system' after only 3 days of stopping taking it. After a TSH level of 10, I was started on 25mg which was increased to 50mg after 6 weeks. This is being reviewed in another 6 weeks. Initially I did feel worse but a week after starting the 50mg dose I am MUCH better. My advice is to start again from square one and stick with it whilst your dosage is being adjusted. Stopping and starting will do you no good. How about asking to start on 25mg and only increase by 25mg each time it is reviwed. Good luck.
Hi
After stopping the tablets my TSH went up to 97.8! and I ended up in bed, unable to stand up without passing out, it was awful.
Have now been to see a consultant. I am now taking 25mg every other day - which seems to be going good so far, not 100% but I can now get up and do things, thank God. He says for me to decide when I need to increase it - my body should tell me. He says I am super sensitive to the thyroxine.
Thanks for your support.
