I've been on simvastatins for about 2 years after TIAs. I'm 56. I had two small Strokes about year ago despite being on simvastatins. Had brain scan which showed two small areas of scarring and carotid artery scan- arteries fine. Started experiencing dizziness last year and GP diagnosed vertigo and gave me seasickness pills which didn't do much good. Since then I've experienced headaches which last for weeks, increasing fatigue (now struggle to get out of bed in morning) muscle pain which is getting really bad and sore feet (?). Increasing memory loss, confusion, lack of concentration, eye problems (when I first wake in morning my vision is blurred for ab out 30 minutes or so. I've been worried i mmay be developing Alzheimers. I've also piled on weight and the texture of my hair has changed - it has become very soft and silky and become thinner - normally my hair is very thick. Also I've had two perms in last 6 months which won't hold curl - been having perms for years and never had this problem. I've had several blood tests including for under-active thyroid and they have all been clear. I've been really worried about all these problems and did some research and came up with this site. I am beginning to think my problems stemm from taking 40mg Simvastatins so am going to stop them and book appointment with GP. Any comments/advice would be appreciated.

You need a new GP.

It makes me very angry to read your message.

Most of the symptoms that you describe are well known side effects - at least if you bother to look for information.

I have nothing to do with the health or pharmaceutical industry.

I saw suffering in people close to me and that forced me to do my own "research".

I could write a long list of books (I am sure that you will find it if you in my earlier messages - swedish is my signature).

For now I would recommend you to Google for "Stopped our statins".

It´s a very informative site.

Under "print articles" to the left there is an interesting article from the Weston Price Foundation about side effects etc.

The situation is exactly the same here - in Sweden.

Yesterday I met a woman who had been referred to all kinds of places for her health issues.

None had ever thought that it might be the statin medication causing them!

The best thing you can do for yourself and people around you is to look for information/books in many different places and bee critical.

Good luck!

Thank you Bradford and Swedish. I feel a lot better now that I have a possible diagnosis/reason for feeling the way I do and that knowing that I am not the only one. It's a pity my GP could diagnose what was wrong with me and instead I have to research it myself. I know the expression 'physician heal thyself' but now it seems to be 'patient heal thyself'!' I'll check out those sites Swedish. Thanks again.

I have been on Simvastin 40 for some time and have recently been taken off it because of side effects, mainly extreme tiredness (sometimes sleeping for 11 hours and still feeling tired on waking) and awful muscle pains in my legs and back when walking, since stopping them I have felt much better in myself, I have slept better and wake up feeling like I've had a good night's sleep and can now walk without muscle pain in my legs of back - what a difference - I would not like to go back on them now.
