Good that you stopped taking that dangerous drug. I am a victim of Lipitor too. Look on my post a few days ago . . . . you can send a report to the FDA, hopefully, if enough people complain about this poison, they will ban it like they did on Baychol.
There are many natural products and alternatives. Too bad that all drs. know is to push drugs.
To answer your questions, roughly 15% of people taking statins suffer side effects, but that number may be higher due to physicians shrugging off patient complaints of side effects from lipitor. Yes, Baycol was taken off the market because it killed alot of people.
Bobby says 15%, if that istrue that is ridiculously high for "preventitive" medicine but I absolutely believe the figure of adverse reactions is far higher. I spoke with my new doctor of 8 months today, he told me my adverse reaction happened in less than 1% of patients. I retorted to him that neither he nor my last doctor had reported my near fatal experience he looked at me with some guilt and some respect. In my small town just through chit chat with customers I know, or know of at least 10 folk with varying degree of severity of reactions to statins. None of these cases have been reported by their doctors to the authorities, the doctors are simply not reporting. I know of 2 cases where the people are currently having adverse reactions right now, I have witnessed one with my own eyes. These people like myself at the time don't know how bad their reaction is and like myself at the time to scared to stop taking their med. The intial fault of this cruel calamity lies fair and square with the prescribing doctors, they are not warning us and by the various accounts from patients on this site they the doctors refuse to believe the patients even though the drug manufacturers state sore muscles is a side effect. We the public buy off the doctors advice. We do not buy (generally) from the manufacturer. If the electrician installs a plug that then becomes faulty we go back to the electrician not his supplier. I sometimes wonder given enough time this statin scandal is going to be the very worst medical scandal of all times. To find out that breast milk the intial most wonderful food at the beginning of life is full of love cherishment and "cholestrol" - what will these people try next? The overwhelming volume of "ignored" statistical information is criminal and defies belief.
