IS THIS SITE AN ANSWER TO OUR PRAYERS? A little while ago less...

IS THIS SITE AN ANSWER TO OUR PRAYERS? A little while ago less than two hours, after a very emotional, difficult battle with my daughter, we had yet another heart to heart to try to do better. At the end of our talk WE PRAYED for guidance to know how to help the situation. So I'm here looking for a link to her behavior fron the ADHD medication and I see someone had posted about Singulair side effects. I was floored! I have never thought that Singulair was not a safe drug. No doctor has ever mentioned any negative side effects to me regarding it. The more I'm reading about it the more in shock I am. Have I and her doctors been doing this to my daughter? My 12 1/2 yo daughter has been on Singulair for probably 10 years. She was a 28 week preemie and had severe lung issues so it was a needed medication. Her behavior has worsened the older she has gotten. Because of mostly anger issues and problems in school about a year ago she was started on ADHD medications. We are currently trying to find "the right one" . I feel so awful. Could all her misery have been caused by this little pill that was suppose to help her? Why has her pulmonoligist continued to give it to her although she has not had any serious asthma problems in years? I think I will stop all medications and see what happens. My daughter has also been on amytriptylin for about six months also for severe migraines. What do you think? Should I stop all of them cold turkey or gradually decrease one at a time? I would GREATLY appreciate any advise. Thank you

OMG...you have a long road infront of you, your child has been on this poison for so long, you need guidance...insit that your doc help you..he is not going to believe it is the singulair,...but stand your ground...it only takes a few days to know you are on the right path..a twinkle in the eyes a smile that you as a mother will immediatly recognise. We did it one med at a time, first we stop singulair saw the improvment then next month stop something else..until now we are med freee.,but the road is long and tough it takes alot of everything, love patience and understanding...I for one believe some damage remains but only time will tell. When you see posotive changes report to the FDA make your doctor report call Merck and report to them.We have to fight what has happened to our children just stopping the drug is not enough, they need someone to give a dam as what may have poisoned them.Good luck keep us posted ,we believe you ,and you are not alone

Hi,

I have a suggestion but you know your daughter better than anyone else. Talk to your doctor! Tell him/her you just heard about the singulair side effects and you want to try an alternative to control her asthma to see if her behavior improves. Remember your daughters health is top priority. Tell your doctor that the FDA is investigating a link between singulair and suicide. There is hope. My son's suicidal thoughts are gone as well as his off the chart anxiety level since being off of singulair. We too use to have emotional/difficult battles.
I do remember his improvements were gradual when he took him off of singulair. Good Luck!!

Well I am so happy you found this site! I too just found it and luckily enough my 3 year old has only been on it for a few months now. Please just take her to the doctors...print these posts and show him/her! Stand your ground! If you dont like the respone...get a new doctor. I feel so sad that your daughter has had to endure this. I know that you will contintue to have patience with her through this long road ahead! I personally would not stop cold turkey. You may have worse results doing it that way. The doctors will advise you what to do. Good luck sweetie!!!!!!

I would try just the Singulair first. I took my son off last week after 8 years and he has shown DRAMATIC changes, all for the better. Our doctor was very receptive and has us keeping her posted. She gave him some samples of xyzal (the active ingredient in zyrtec) only 2.5 mg which is half of a pill to help with any allergies he may react with, so far, so good. Good luck.

Thank God that your prayers were answered. Finding this site could have saved your daughter's life. My daughter also had severe allergies and asthma and she was on Singulair, Zyrtec, adn Advair for three years. She slowly changed from a social, outgoing, and happy young woman into a withdrawn, angry and depressed 17 year old. She committed suicide after three years of hell on this drug! It wasn't until a few months after her death that the links between singulair and mood and behavior disturbances started to surface. Fight to keep your daughter off of this drug, and tell everybody that you know about the dangers of Singulair. Especially the FDA and Merck!
