Hi I am a 44 year old asthma patient. I have had asthma since the age 2 and have been on & off prednisone since that time. As a child until age 20 I was on predinsone daily. My question is has anyone experienced nerve problems due to long time use? I do have muscle weakness and spasms, but I am interested in if anyone has had nerve problems. Please email me at ****** and refer to prednisone.

Hi, corticosteroids do cause muscle weakness, in addition, they contribute to muscle-wasting. And just only the tip of the iceberg. Make sure you take high-quality, professional-strength multi-vitamin-mineral complex, because corticosteroids deplete lots of important vitamins and minerals. Make sure your diet is not deficient in protein, and omega-3 fatty acids. Good luck!

yes my mom is 65 and has been on prednisone for about 10 yrs?
she had a spell or reaction that made her go to the er, her nerves in her legs and feet went numb, nobody knows why?????? she now has neuropathy and takes gabapetin for the nerves. she is a rheumatoid patient and that is why she is on prednisone all the doctors she has seen says she should get off the pred but never discuss the baaaaddd side effects!!!
and all of a sudden she is getting bad sweats, high blood pressure, hasn't been able to sleep for years does the 2 or 3 am wakeup like everybody else talks about, depression, all of the above, but if you talk to these doctors its not the pred its because of the rheumatoid pain!!!!
