I had mine inserted the first week of July. Yes, it was freaking uncomfortable getting it done and I had cramping the rest of the day, but my OB warned me of that and I made the decision to go ahead. I'm not in a position to complain about it now. I bled/spot for 2-3 weeks after insertion. Only heavy enough to require a tampon for the first week, but I had it inserted when I was supposed to be starting my period anyway. Again my OB suggested this and warned me about the possibility of bleeding for up to 6 months. Again my decision to go forward! Since then I have had cramping once a month like I'm going to start my period and never do. Within the last few weeks I've started getting the acne and an oily scalp. It's all over my back and not poppable. I'm hoping it will eventually subside when my body gets used to the new hormone level I'm giving it. If you think about it, it's the same thing in puberty (ie change in hormones) that kicks off the acne so it doesn't surprise me that this is a side effect. If it doesn't subside I'll make a decision then whether or not to have it out. I have not had any of the other side effects. In fact I had terrible headaches and neck pain before I got this and those have gotten much better. I was on the pill for 15 years before getting mirena and I had much worse side effects with that (extreme moodiness, loss of sexual desire, bad cramps, long periods, etc). I tried multiple brands of pills and never found one I was 100% happy with. But I dealt with it because I made the decision to go on B/C. I'll take the acne over those any day! (not to mention I got pregnant on the pill!!!) I understand that these side effects suck, but you act like it's the company's fault. They specifically list the common side effects and the majority of the ones you're complaining about are listed in plain site Taken directly from their website: Menstrual changes Lower abdominal pain (cramps) Acne or other skin problems Back pain Breast tenderness Headache Mood changes Nausea Ovarian cysts have been diagnosed in about 12% of Mirena® users. In most cases, the enlarged follicles disappeared spontaneously during two to three months of observation. Did you think that's just for show? Did you ever stop to consider (before getting the product) you might actually get those side effects and what you would do if you did? It is your body... YOU are the only one responsible for what goes inside it. No one held you down and forced you to do this. Mirena didn't hide anything from you or trick you into it. Take some responsibility for your actions! Quit blaming others. This is a great example of what is wrong with our society today! Take responsibility! Do your research! Make your own decisions and deal with the consequences of them without blaming others! If you look at the mirena website it gives you the FDA number to call to report side effects. If you're having major ones call the FDA and report it so that more than just people that stumble upon this forum know about it!

WOW.....I think women fins comfort in talking to other women who may be experienceing the same thing as they are. Specially when your OB/GYN is telling you your crazy and it can't possibly be the Mirena doing this to your body.
Sorry if this site disturbed you. But, you could of exited the site just as easily as you entered it. Don't take your frustrations out on inocent people. I think you are experiencing the "Mood Swing" symptom.

The issue that most of us have is that the company has NOT been completely truthful in listing the side effects. Please tell me where in the official literature you see the following"

Heart palpitations
Anxiety
Loss of libido
Glucose impairment (in someone who has never had an issue with this)
Premature menopause upon removal
Hair Loss
Joint pain/stiffness
Breast density increase (density, not size - increased density is an increased cancer risk)

These are ALL side effects that I suffered from that have gone away (along with my cystic acne, constant bloat, constant headaches -- things that were mentioned as possible side effects)....all except the fact that I am now post-menopausal.

Further, WHY was the prescribing info for Canadian patients more comprehensive then that available in the U.S.? Is the uterus of a Canadian woman different???

Now, if you want to really study the patient info, how about reading where it says that your period may stop completely....then keep reading further to where it says that if you miss a period, contact your doctor....well, WHICH is it? Is it ok to not have a period anymore or not?

The fact is that Bayer has not done any long-term studies of users nor have they studied what happens after removal...they will tell you that themselves. Other parties that have done more extensive research have discovered some pretty startling commonalities -- immediate premature menopause, increased breast issues, infertility, etc. not to mention that there is evidence that the progestin does NOT stay local and is, in fact, the same amount you'd get if you took two POP per day! My very own blood tests confirmed that the progestin was not staying local to my uterus.

I DID to a ton of research on my own prior to getting the Mirena. I expect the manufacturer to reveal the truth and then let me decide. The bottom line is that if you didn't have a problem pre-Mirena but have one post-install, the overwhelming reason is likely the Mirena. I am lucky to have good insurance and a great doctor who did not for a moment discount my symptoms. In fact, he said that he had been hearing the same thing from a LOT of his patients, and this man is the president of the women's hospital in my city, a major metropolitan area, and the head of a very well respected OB/GYN practice that has been around for 3 generations now.
Not everyone has a doctor that will believe them and do what they can to help their patient.

From reading these posts, you now have the benefit of knowing that these side effects can happen to you. I hope that you tolerate it well, I really do...but if you have problems, you'll know the source.

The problems that those who have posted on this site have had are very real.

You may want to look in the BJOG, Volume 114, Issue 10, pages 1307-1308, dated Oct of 2007 and read the article "Mirena: the other side of the story"....as well as the additional articles cited in the footnotes. You may be shocked to find how high the LNG concentration can actually be as well as it's effect on libido and estrogen suppression....none of this in the manufacturer prescribing info, that's for sure!!
