Anyone experience vaginal swelling??? I'm kind of freaked out. I got it placed 2 weeks ago and was supposed to start my period a few days later, I did and have been bleeding for 10 days now. I normally have 4 day ong periods. I have had some pain in my left side really low but then about 4 days ago I noticed it was hard to place a tampon and felt like things were swollen in there. I looked in a mirror and had my hubby check too. It looks like the side of my vagina has collapsed and is laying across the opening of my vagina! When I push (like giving birth, but not as hard) it kind of pushes out. My hubby said it looks like guts coming out instead of a baby head (we have 3 kids, so we are familiar with that sight). Has anyone else had this side effect??? My midwives can't get me in till Monday but I am worried NOW!! She told me I could find the strings and remove it myself BUT with all the swelling I don't know that I could find the strings or that it would even be safe to pull out like that! HELP!!!!!

Hi,
I had the mirena placed 2 weeks ago and I just had it removed on thursday.
I had tried to have intercourse with my significant other and it hurt extremely bad. I too had lots of swelling. I went to the doctor and had it checked out. Turned out I had gotten 3 infections from having it placed. They put me on medicine and then the next day I had contractions 3 to 4 minutes apart as if I was in labor. I went and had the mirena removed immediately. It turns out that your not supposed to get the mirena if you hany type of immunity disorder and I have a hypoactive thyroid which is considered one. I hope this helps.

i'm a labor and delivery nurse, and i just read your post- it sounds like a uterine prolapse, have your GYN check it out. i doubt that has anything to do with the IUD and a lot more to do with going through childbirth

I just had mirena placed inside me today. The dr told me to check to feel for the strings, but i tried to feel for them, but its so swollen down there that i can not even get my pinky in to check... So I decided to search the net.... wondering if I should try to get into my dr tomorrow... or let the swelling go down????????
