I used to use Albuterol for occasional mild asthama. I have Multiple Chemical Sensitivities and the Albuterol was the only medication I could still tolerate. I got a new prescription and found that Albuterol had been pulled off the market a few years ago. The pharmacist gave me Proair instead, but why he/she didn't give me Proventil or Ventolin, I don't understand. I too started having severe side effects: nasal and throat irritation, increasing asthma, chest pain, coughing fits, inflamation, hives, drainage and mild episodes of anaphylaxis. For many nights over the past month, I have had to sit up just so I could get some sleep, as it hurt too much to lie down, plus I couldn't breathe. I tried to go back to the Albuterol, but I could no longer tolerate it either, and was experiencing the same side effects that started with the Proair. As a result of using the Proair, I am having more frequent and more intense asthma attacks than usual. I just have to relax and wait them out. Thanks to Proair, I have no options. My sister found Proair to be ineffective, and another friend had severe reactions too. I agree with nixxiebinelli, that this should not be given to people....infact, it needs to be pulled off the market before it makes others ill. If you are getting a presciption from your doctor, make sure it is not for Proair!
