I totally agree. I have been taking Wellbutrin for about 2 years now. My hair has become thin on top. I have always had real thick hair wavy/curly hair. Now on top, it's thin to where i can easily spot my scalp. It's very depressing. Yeah, my father has thinned alot over the years, but his did not start thinning till he was like 45. Here i'm 29 and my hair is thinning way to fast. i'm going to stop taking wellbutrin today. I have a doc appt in Jan 09. going to see if i can take anything else that wont make me lose my hair. But i'm convinced that this med wellbutrin causes hair thinning/lose.
I can't tell you how much I appreciate that there are people out there willing to confess what is happening to them on their meds. I am a 34 year old woman who has been on Wellbutrin XL 300mg for almost one year and I have had such hair loss that I am going to see a specialist on Dec 19th. I found this site and the posting this evening and I am immediatly cutting back to a half dose tomorrow. I am going to try only a 1/2 dose for 3-4 days and then drop it completely. I had been on Wellbutrin 2 years ago as well and notice some hair loss back then but I had not been on the medication for more than 6 months. This go around has been devastating and I can't take the medication anymore. Now my question and concern is will my hair grow back? How much of it will grow back? There is nothing more depressing than losing your hair. I too am convinced that the Wellbutrin is the root cause of my hair thinning and hair loss issues.
I experienced the same exact thing. I went to the doctor twice and the dermatologist and neither thought it was the medicine. I have lost a lot of weight recently and they blamed it on that. Please let me know if your hair stopped falling out when you stopped taking it, and if it is growing back. It is so upsetting. Thanks.
