There are MANY alternatives. As a matter of fact singulair has only been proven to have modest efficacy and has been called by many experts as "not an important drug for pediatric asthma". Inhaled corticosteroids are still the most effective. You doctor should be able to provide you with an alternative and DO NOT take no for an answer. If you doctor doesn't provide you with an alternative you should fire him!
Try any alternative beside Singulair that you can. Yes this medication works, but at what cost? my daughter committed suicide after being on this medication for 3 1/2 years. We never got a chance to find an alternative. DO NOT WAIT!
My 10 year old son has been on Singulair for a month. I have noticed that he is very easily upset and cries at the drop of a hat. I am thinking of taking him off of it. He only has very mild asthma (just diagnosed in August) and has never had an inhaler. Any information is helpful.
We have had good luck with Symbicort- twice a day. Good luck.
I pulled my daughter off Singulair (after 3 1/2 yrs on i) due to Night terrors: she currently takes Flovent inhaler and Nasonex. Her Asthma is in control, sleeps through the night finally at 5 yrs old.
Good Luck!!
