I have been on neurontin 300 mg for only 2 weeks, if not less and I feel the weight gain. I'm either bloated or this is unbelievable. I have a disc in both my left hand and my lower back, fibromayalgia and Lupus. Therefore, the severity of my pain is unbearable. With Neurontin, there is no pain. But, there is the dizziness, weight gain, forgetfulness and just feeling incoherent and drunk. I don't think I can handle the side effects. So, I do have a question, if I've only been on neurontin for two weeks, can I just stop them on my own or do I need to speak to my Dr.? I know he will tell me not to which is why I'm asking. I have an issues with my weight and gaining weight would destroy my psyche. Thanks for listening ..it's nice to be able to find common ground with people. I don't feel so alone anymore.

Dear brio8:

I have been taking Neurontin 600mg 4x a day now for almost 3 years. Every time I think that the medication is not helping anymore and I start to slowly go off of it, the pain becomes unbareable. When I first started taking it I was messed up for quite a few weeks. Thought I had gotten high for those first few weeks. Your body gets use to it, and yes there is some weight gain. I personally have a problem with weight gain part also, but then I stop taking it and I will deal with a few extra pounds. If you can give it another week or so. I don't know what I would do with out it. Oh yes I do I would not be able to walk, or have a sense of humor. When the pain is severe ask your love ones how it affects them too. You just have to weigh the facts. (Ha Ha) See I do have a sense of humor. Good luck with whatever choice you make. If you do go off it, gradually quit taking it, please don't stop cold turkey.
