Going off of lipitor is not dangerous--staying on it, though, is! Most people do not experience any side effects. I am wondering what age you are? Maybe you are in the menopausal stage where sweats and hot flashes are normal. I had very high liver values and muscular myopathy after only being on it for four months. Nine months later I am still working on getting both back to normal. This medication is not something to play with--sooner or later it is going to turn everyone that is taking it into a cripple! I know so many people that are on it that are having so many aches and pains, shuffle when they walk, can hardly get up from a sitting position, but refuse to believe that the lipitor is causing this. Just stick with your decision to quit this poison--down the road you will be so glad that you did!
thanks Motheradele46, I am going thru perimeno but have not had this sudden surge of just being too warm. It's almost not a "flash" as it seems to be more during the day which was not the case with my "flashes." What about the sudden exhaustion? I am healthy, active, and full of energy, (was). I have had problems with memory loss, vision challenges, disorientation, and hair loss. I never thought it was from the lipitor, I attributed it to menopausal symptoms.
I stopped taking lipitor " cold turkey"after 8 years. After nearly 8 mos., I still have many side effects. I continue to use natural products to help it and control my cholesterol. There are alternatives also. It sounds like you are going through the menopause stage as you said. There are natural products to help you with this also.
LIPITOR IS A DANGEROUS DRUG.
I wondered whether my hots were menopause but I'm a boy 55 yrs.
I was on that s****** for 4.5 yrs. When I stopped last Dec the withdrawal was clearly the worst part of this whole ordeal, all body and mental functions ravaged. Sheets soaking with sweat. I had fallen out with my doctor, but had I had someone I could trust and who was experienced & under under strict control I would have allowed to re start my statins at a lower dose and wean. I was different to you in that I was already in serious trouble before I stopped the statins. The withdrawals "my goodness- unbelievable" I can't offer you constructive suggestions re-weaning, regrettably you are like so many of us here POISONED through so called "preventitve medicine". This medicine has been shown to have no advantage what so ever for females and elderly which I find very difficult to cope with. Our trusted doctors may well have been pill vending machines - it's a feeling of deep betrayal. Everything you have described I have suffered and heaps more. I openly declare if it was not for my wife I would not be here. Apart from the ravaged pain, during all this pussy saga I've heard "the voices" and stalked the house with axe in hand. Real movie stuff. Anyway on the plus side. 100 mgs x 3 per day of COQ10 but it must be KANEKA ubiquinol make, just don't bother with the other brands plus 400 mgs magnessium citrate powder, plus heaps of fish oil. Within 3 weeks my pain decreased and energy increased by about 20 - 30 %, it didn't fix it but it really helps. 10 months Later I still get painful heart spams but the fish oil and coq10 helps a lot. Careful how you handle your doctor you read on this site where people go through several doctors so you have to decide better the devil you know maybe? I have been following this site since Dec 07 including myself you are only the 4th patient to notify withdrawals so fortunately it is not happening to most people. I do warn you that 6 months after I stopped horrible events that I had done started comming to me as my memory returned. What is happening and i know of cases personally the drug is effecting people but they/we don't know or can't explain what is happening at the time. Go to spacedoc dot net you will learn a lot. Also google muscle damage harvard there is a picture of statin damaged fish flesh. This is bigger than the current world financial markets I have no doubt there will be imprisoment in due course but how much damage in the intermin. I'm 10 months post statins, starting to reduce my pain killers and actually enjoying some light exercise again as opposed to forcing myself to do it. Be careful driving, I still have little black outs, be careful to yourself, be careful to those around you and most of all be patient. Good luck to you from New Zealand.

Hi,
Thanks for your post. I have been on Lipitor mgs for 18 months and cannot say I have had a side effect at all.
November 08...while at the physio's for a knee arthroscope recovery (knee operation 8 years ago that now needed some work done) I spoke to a guy who was recovering from a ripped achiles tendon and he said he may have got it from using Lipitor even though he was a young active guy (I'm 42 and play & coach soccer). He said it has the potential to stop amino acids reaching the extremities of the body, so they are starved of these acids and simply tear without warning.
I am deathy scared of this happening to me and am considering going off Lipitor. My cholesterol level is almost double what it should be but would be willing to fix it another way. I see heart specialists each year for a checkup as a precaution and I am in good condition in those ares.
