Hi azimut.
A lot of your symptoms sound awfully similar to mine.
Let me tell you a bit about myself… I’m 21 and was on Yasmin for a year in 2006 for my intense period pain and birth control reasons. I noticed a few ‘problems’ but being 19 and totally naïve, I never attributed them to Yasmin. Then I suffered from: leg cramps, weight gain (especially around the middle), loss of good vision, sinus problems, muscle weakness, depression and total loss of interest in sex. I did faint once as well (I had never fainted either)
I went off it after breaking up with my ex in 2007. The sinus problems disappeared as did the depression.
I restarted on Yasmin in May 2008 and suffered from the follwing side effects including: heart palps, shortness of breath, dizziness, shakes, headaches, blurry vision, nausea, numbness/tingling in fingers, chest pain/pressure/tightness, feeling cold, panic attacks, tachycardia, fatigue, insomnia, depression, redness & swelling in fingers, muscle weakness & discomfort, painful heavy periods, foggy head, high cholesterol, alternating constipation & diarrhoea, burning sensation in my stomach, hot flushes, leucorrhoea, skin rash, pale dry skin, hair loss, sinus problems, increased need to urinate and weight gain- 10kgs or 22lbs approx.
I’m not an unhealthy person. I’m young and before this nightmare I was very fit- hitting the gym 5-6 days a week, working 3 jobs and completing my degree at uni all at the same time. Now I’m a fatigued, nervous wreck. I can do any physical activity without triggering tachycardia (heart racing) and anxiety attacks!
I’ve felt like this for 4 months now. I came off Yasmin straight away and have spent so much money trying to find out what is wrong with me. I’ve had a d-dimer test, transthoracic echo (heart ultrasound), holter monitor and more ecgs and blood tests than I can count. With nothing constructive coming back from any of them- other that everything is fine except my cholesterol. The holter monitor showed sinus tachycardia, ectopic beats and atrial bigeminy and trigeminy.
A lot of people find natural remedies work for them. Maybe you can try that? I have been seeing a naturopath for a few months and it does help!
Personally, I never had a REAL problem with my periods. All have been around 28-30 days except for 1 which was about a week or so late (unusual for me though)
Just remember.. you are not alone.
Every doctor seems to think I just have anxiety disorder and refuse to believe its anything caused by Yasmin. I know, however, what caused it. I’m going to go down the panic attack – psychologist route to see if I can clear up any of the anxiety.
I don’t know if you have heard about it but there is a forum called yasminsurvivors where people who have suffered from this pill come together to discuss what might help us in our quest to feel good again. You should check it out (if you haven’t already)
All the best

Hi there!
Thank you for your post. It sounds like you had it pretty bad from Yasmin. It blows my mind when doctors refuse to admit that the Pill causes problems, any problems. I've been told the same thing many times. I've had the same weight, 55 kilos, since I was 17 until I started taking Yasmin and then in 6 weeks time I first went down to 51 and then up to 58 without changing diet or exercise. And the stupid doctor refused to believe me when I said that it was the pills fault. I have stayed at 58 or right under since then. :-( And just like you said I gained it all in the middle section. It's really only 2-3 kilos but a whole size in pants, from 6 to an 8.
Same thing when I went to check out the pressure in my chest. He said I had Panick Attacks in the first 5 minutes he saw me and I said "No way in heck!" I know it was caused by Yasmin.
I' ve only been off the pill 2 weeks today but so far I haven't noticed any change in my weight, I'd like to be 55 again. Did you loose weight when you got off the pill? I'm scared I'm gonna gain more weight like I've read a lot of the other women have.
Don't worry about being naive, I'm 33 now and for years I didn't want to see and honestly didn't make the connection between the pill and my problems. Just be glad you are smart and figured it out at 21! :-)
So, what's next for you? Did you get your period back btw? I'm worried about not getting mine back like the last time I quit.
Now that I read your post again I thought about that all my rings have gotten too small. And again, these are rings I have had for 10 years that all of a sudden don't fit, I guess we know who to blame, huh?
Did your cholesterol start to go down at all yet?
How long did it take you to start to feel better after you quit?
Take care of yourself,
Azimut
P.S I'll gonna read the Yasmin survivors too.
Hi, I was reading this and did a search and found that it looks like some Yasmin class action lawsuit is going on or is about to happen. The site appears to be a legal type site and talks about the side effects some of us have had.
Here's the link to that site. Maybe this can be the start of the lawsuit.

Thank you. I will look in to it. :-)
Well. I just started using Yasmin last week...and just used it for two days and developed tachycardia, palpitations, and a worsening of the very mild asthma that I have occasionally. I stopped the drug but it seems very unlikely that hormones could cause tachycardia. So I gave it a second trial today and the tachycardia is back.....Sigh! I'm guessing Yasmin is the cause.
