I have been on Singulair for about one month and am experiencing extremely painful cramps/charlie horses in my legs. I am taking Singulair for adult onset asthma. Have a horrid cough, been told over the past 20 years, yes, 20 years, it is caused by allergies but no medication stops the coughing. Then they figured it had to be caused by acid reflux. So prilosec is prescribed. Still have the cough. Now this specialist deems it to be adult onset asthma. The Singulair does not stop the coughing - so what is next? Major leg cramps/charlie horses.

Have you tried taking lactose pills? A certain type of reflux can be caused by lactose intolerance. Singulair is poison.

Thank you for your comments. Why do you say Singulair is poison? Do you think the reflux is causing the cough? If so, why does the Prilosec not stop it? The cough that is.

Your leg cramps may very well be a side effect of Singulair. I say it is poison because I saw what it did to my own child and because I've researched it to the extent that I can get information. There are other treatments for asthma that don't seem to alter brain chemistry in the same way. I'm not an expert, but I know that there can be a connection between dairy and a reflux-type cough. Prilosec reduces stomach acid but it doesn't provide the enzyme needed to break down lactose. You can test this by noticing whether dairy/lactose affects your cough - either stop having dairy for a week or take a lactose pill each time you have any dairy. Good luck.

Your story is mine, almost exactly! Have had a chronic cough (wheezy feeling) for about 8 years. Have GERD and take Omeperazole. Didn't help the cough. I figured it was allergy related as I can go a month without the "wheezies" and all of a sudden it's back full force. I was put on Sigulair and have had the WORST cramping, especially in my left calf. Diahrrea and surprise, still coughing. Now they want to do another endoscopy, this time into my bronchials to determine the cause.(Biopsy tissue?) Just finished with the bills for the one to determine my acid reflux, can't go that route just yet. Good luck to you, you're not alone!
