Since I've gotten my Mirena Implant I've been diagnosed with 2 different STD's and an infection which after the blood tests came back negative! So far I have taken meds for HPV, Herpes, and a UTI. Each time I go in for my pap smear and check up to make sure the IUD is still in place I inform the doctors (have visited 6: 3 for the first pap, 3 for the second opinion) that one of the biggest side effects of the implant is abnormal pap smears, even hand them the same pamphlet that the inserting doctor gave me when I first got it (which clearly states abnormal pap smears as a side effect) however I still end up with some horrible disease/infection! So far, in the one year I have had this thing in me, I have taken 20 different meds for these STD's that I NEVER HAD!!!! These meds have made me horribly sick and the UTI meds almost killed me. Also, like many women on here, I have bad hair loss, headaches, horrible back pains, and crippling stomach pains. Constantly attempting to get my doctor to give me an ultra sound to make sure that the impant didnt tear me but she refuses! Go to the hospital to ask them for the same and they refuse also "Thats not likely with the implant." This is my one year check up coming up, I want this thing out! If they do not take it out I'm threatening with a lawsuit. This is NOT a life saving device and they should have NO say in whether or not this stays in!
