I took Topomax for bi polar treatment last year for 2 months. I forgot what stop signs meant and forgot to look behind when backing out of a parking space.
At work, I could not form the right words to construct my sentence and someone accused me of drinking on the job!

Hi, I took Topamax for about 3 months in the summer of 2008 (75mg/day). I experienced major memory loss: I got confused and didn't know which side of the street to drive on; I couldn't visualize in my mind places like my living room; I got lost in parking lots -- all the time; I forgot having done certain chores/tasks; I was embarrassed by all this and felt vulnerable when alone not knowing that to expect next. I've been off the drug for about 3 months and am beginning to notice my memory getting better. Good luck!

How do you know that it is safe for pregnancy? I am about to do IVF so went off of it just in case it is not safe. However, I am now having issues with my period. I am over 2 weeks late and my period is always between 26-28 days. Has anyone else expereienced a disruption in their menstrual cylce while cominf of Topamax?

Topamax is NOT safe for pregnancy!!!!!! I had to go off of it as soon as I found out I was pregnant. Topamax can cause MAJOR birth defects and even fetal death. It can cause neurological impairment, delayed development, body defects and the list goes on and on. Talk to any doctor and unless you absolutely cannot go without it safely during your pregnancy, they are going to take you off of it. My maternity doctor almost had a panic attack when I told himI was on topamax when he gave me the news that I was pregnant and said that if I absolutely could not live without it that I had to go off of it. My psychologist concured with him as well. So whomever gave you the advice that it is safe during pregnancy does not know what they are doing and has not read the studies.

I havent read any studies or spoke with a psychologist. I was going off of personal experience when I said that Topamax was safe for pregnancy. I had a wonderful pregnancy with Topamax. And had a healthy, beautiful baby. I really believe that prayer changes things. And if Topamax is as bad as you say it is, I feel blessed.
