I have been on Zyrtec for three years (Every day) haven't noticed mood swings in myself? My mother also takes them every other day and is not particularly moody. Although she has trouble sleeping which she attributes to the menopause But if i don't take one within 24hrs I get very itchy and hive up..now that I'm breastfeeding I've just noticed my daughter is very irritable..and am beginning to think it's related to the zyrtec. I'm changing to claratyne in the morning to see if there's a change..very,very interesting and scary reading all the side-effects!!

Try to get off all the antihistimines while you are breastfeeding. No one will tell you that it will harm the baby but the medication stays in your body for up to 3 years. Your daughter could develop an immunity to the medicine and won't be able to take anything in the future. Trust me, I have severe dermatographic skin and the slightest touch makes me welt. I was psychotic, had several emotional outbursts and started to have memory loss. I went to a new young doctor (accidentally) and mentioned it in passing to him in which his reply was "oh yeah, Zyrtec makes you stupid". It was temporary but the detoxing was difficult for the first 3 weeks. No more depression, angry behavior and memory restored. But the medicine stays in your fat cells for up to 3 years. I use alot of the Aveeno lotion with menthol especially after a bath. They have an oatmeal liquid too for the bath. I try not to get overheated and stay away from elastic in my clothes (and wool too). Rub your skin, don't scratch. I take Clarinex if any part of my face welts up but otherwise, I stay away from everything else. I hope this helps.
