Wow, I am constantly shocked by doctors prescribing this medicine to children so young! Thank God that your Mother's comments led you here. Please keep us updated on your Son's progress once off this medicine. He's been on it so long, it may take longer to get out of his system. I was on this stuff for only 8 days (I'm a 41 year old mother of two), and I ended up in the hospital because of it. Good luck to you and your family. I bet you will see a child emerge that you didn't even know existed - for the better of course! My 1 1/2 year old Son has a constant runny nose, and I am more than happy to wipe it, and live with it. Luckily, my Pediatrician thinks his constant runny nose is due to teething. He thinks once he gets all of his teeth, that it will stop. My Mom said I had a runny nose when I was cutting teeth also...so I tend to agree.
Good Luck keep us updated,we dont know about long term effects as no one is investigating this,i can tell you my son has improved 90% the other 10% we are working on hoping for a full recovery. You are not alone we care
My daughter has been on Singulair since she was 18 months old and she will be 6 in December. She is always telling me no and telling me or my husband that she doesn't love us and she even drew a picture of who she called her daddy and a gun and told my husband that the gun was to kill him with. That really has been bothering my husband and myself since this happened last week. She doesn't seem to want to listen to her teachers or any elders what so ever. She will scream at me and tell me no shes not going to do this or that and we have gotten to the point to where we can't handle it any longer. So we have decided to take her off the Singulair and see if that doesn't help out with her behavior. The DR just prescribed Zyrtek to add to the Singulair b/c it alone is not helping with her allergies. Anyone out there with any advice on this please help me out and let me know what you know so that I can get my daughter on the right path in life! Thanks!
My son requires two forms of medications to stop the running nose, singulair and pediox. The two together were a very good combination and it did work. By eliminating the signulair on Oct. 6th, his nose is already running and he is coughing. We have tried Zyrtek and a few others I can't even remember, but none work as well. If anyone has any suggestions, please let me know. I will be calling his pediatrician for other suggestions, but I know she will be against us taking him off of the singulair, especially since he has had pnumonia in the past.
Singulair has been linked to suicidal tendencies. Clearly there must be a mood side effect. I personally use Zyrtec D, which is the only thing that has stopped my nose from dripping constantly. The regular Zyrtec doesn't work for me.
