I've been on Lisinopril for the last 2 months. It seems that i also started the coughing fit, mostly when I'm asleep. It used to be once in a while but lately, It's been more often, even during the day. I went to the doctor and he thought it could be acid reflux so he gave me medicines for it. It didn't work. I thought it could be allergies, since I've been getting the mucus drainage in the back of my throat. Now that I'm reading your symptons, I think it's time for me to go back to the doctor and get a different prescription.
I don't have any other symptons and I'm not taking any medications as well.
Thanks for your posting.
I'm glad it was helpful. I understand that the coughing and other reactions don't always appear right away, so it's sometimes hard to be sure it's all connected to the drug. Like you, the coughing was limited to just a bit at the beginning of the night, and then slowly progress to the point where it was constant and persistent. In my case, the coughing became so violent that it caused hemorrhoids to appear..unusual for me....as well as the other things. I knew at that point that I had to get off of it. Why do doctors want to ascribe that coughing to anything but the drug? That mystifies me.
After a week of being off Lisinopril, I'm still coughing occasionally, but it's much less and not in uncontrollable fits, and the mucus drainage is also much less. I understand from my research that it can take 6-8 weeks to get this stuff completely out of your system.
I thought I would update this and let y'all know that the coughing is finally gone. It took a full 4 weeks. I still have a bit of drainage, but hardly aware of it unless I think about it, and hoping that continues to go away. The only reaction I'm having to the new drug (Norvasc generic) is that I am sleepier than normal, but I'll take that over that horrible coughing any day. Unfortunately, the Norvasc isn't keeping my numbers as low. I imagine my doc will be adding something else to it at my next visit.
