Oh my goodness.....my daughter, age 17, had her first injection in June 2008, started losing her hair w/in a month. We thought it was form straightening, some high lightening etc. She had blood work done which showed she was anemic...strange, as 2yrs prior her blood work was stellar, and she had not changed her diet, or physical activity. She increased her iron and protein intake (along w/ supplements).....three months later, and after her second injection, iron was still anemic....worse actually, and her hair loss significant.I found this website last night....and I am floored......I called MERCK today and spoke to a representative wh o was not aware of the hair loss issue, but said that in their case studies, Autoimmune Hemolytic Anemia was a side effect.....which leads to hair loss itself.....so I am researching now what to do next.....anyone else have this issue??????

Yes! My 26 yr old dauther had heavy thick hair, now it's not. her story was just posted 10.10.08 from kac423. I too just discovered this site and it makes me sick inside and whirling mad. Will they continue to lose hair? Will it grow back? How many girls will have their life changed forever by this drug?

I'm so sorry about your daughter. Let's fight for them and learn more.

Hello Moms-
I also posted about my daughter's hair loss. We just don't know what to do at this point. We will be seeing the rheumatologist next month to rule out yet another, or several "could-be's" This whole thing is a mystery to me, and of course very upsetting. If I hear of anything I will update you. Please do the same.
thank you-

Thanks for the replies....please have your daughter's thoroughly examined for any other medical changes/issues....if this drug is causing hair loss, and perhaps anemia in my daughter's case, what other kind of havoc is it causing that perhaps have no symptoms as of yet??.......we are doing more blood work next week....I will update then.

Yes...my daughter had the exact same side effect....All her hair is falling out rapidly...She went to the dermatologist, who at first said it was a fungus and tested her for it, but it was negaitve. Then he said it was from braids, but she has worn her hair in braids all of her life...This is so sad...What are people doing about this?

Just an update on my post on Oct 8, 2oo8, regarding my daughters hair loss and anemia. We had very extensive blood work done recently...everything looked normal, except the anemia and red cell count is down. She has been on iron supplements for three months, perhaps not enough time to raise her FE levels. Her hair coninues to fall out, no bare spots.....just really, reaaly thin. Beside all this....she has been in the ER three times in three months injuries do to awkward clumsiness resulting in concussion; neck sprain, and other injuries.....probably not related to the shot at all, perhaps pure tiredness....but it makes me wonder.....thakns for all your responses/updates!

Clumsiness and uncoordination are not uncommon side effects to many kinds of vaccines. This is because the vaxes can affect the central nervous system. Minimal brain damage is a well known side effect of the old DPT shot, and had all sorts of effects on coordination. Ladies if I were in your shoes I'd think seriously about going to a homeopath and getting the homeopathic antidote to this shot. It can work wonders. But all the best to your daughters, hope their hair gets better.

I have been researching like mad the past two days. My daughter also had hair loss approx. 2 months after her third dose (fall '07) and it continued the ENTIRE FALL SEMESTER of her college year. She is lucky to have a full head of hair but she just told me today that she was getting a brushful every two daysl. OMG ... if only I had known it was that much I would have started my quest so much sooner. She's now getting her periods every two weeks so will be seeing an OB/GYN. I am so angry at Merck for putting this product out. Our daughters are Merck's guinea pigs! Unfortunately, the doctors and nurses aren't hearing about anything negative so they have no idea what's going on - at least the ones in CARY, NC don't (or they don't want to be responsible).
