Hello. I am am going through some major hair loss. I started the pills three weeks ago and i can honestly say that I have lost more hair in the past couple of weeks than i have ever lost in my entire life. I am 22 and I have no family line of baldness. I was on YAZ and this never happened. I switched to FEMCON Fe because I had breakthrough bleeding. Now not only am I having an almost nervous break but my face is breaking out. Something that I never really experienced with YAZ. Can anyone tell me if the hair will grow back? Thanks

Hi, I started taking Orthotricyclin Lo in Feb 08 and stopped in April after noticing hair loss. I was pretty sure it was as a consequence of the pill. I had a terrible time with my hair even after stopping the pill which made me think that it could be something else. Four months after stopping, I visited a dermatologist who took a complete blood panel, all of which came back normal. I should have gone with my gut feeling--it was definately the pill. My derm concurred and said that any change in hormone level (a result of the pill) or stress can cause your hair to go into resting mode. After resting mode, your hair falls out and then begins its regular cycle again. I'm here to let you know that although it has taken 6 months, my hair has now stopped falling out and is growing again!!! Yeah! One thing that really helped was getting my hair cut to shoulder length. I think this strengthens it and also help you from noticing the hair loss as much - reducing the stress factor. Please don't despair, you hair will definately grow back, you just have to be patient and let nature take its course. Stop the pill and talk to you gynie about alternatives to stop your bleeding--they love to throw a pill at you because it's an easy cure. I am sure that the change in hormone level you are experiencing is also causing your breakouts. That too should correct itself in time. Let your body sort itself out - it knows how to do it better than any drug!

Hope this helps. I know what your going through... and you'll be okay!!!

I have been on Femcon for about a year and my hair has thinned severely. I started looking at this site to see if someone else may be having the same symptoms. I had mentioned this to my gyno last time I was there and she never mentioned the drug--she suggested that I take Biotin and use a special shampoo and conditioner. It's still falling out and am now going to a dermatologist to see if this is the cause. I REALLY think it is b/c like you, I have no family genes with hair loss and I've never had a problem in the past.
