My son requires two forms of medications to stop the running nose, singulair and pediox. The two together were a very good combination and it did work. By eliminating the signulair on Oct. 6th, his nose is already running and he is coughing. We have tried Zyrtek and a few others I can't even remember, but none work as well. If anyone has any suggestions, please let me know. I will be calling his pediatrician for other suggestions, but I know she will be against us taking him off of the singulair, especially since he has had pneumonia in the past.

I know what you mean this drug does appear to work well, but the side effects are devastating,my son to when taken off,we had the return of that cough i dreaded,i took him to the peds doc and his lungs were clear,so i rode it out,10 days later it was gone and he was doing great.Taking our children off meds that have helped them is scary,my son also had pneumonia that almost took his life so i was scared to death, but i know now it was for the best to get him off this drug, hang tight,it is a personal choice

If your son has allergies that cause the runny nose you might be able to stop it by aggressively avoiding the allergens. My kids have many food allergies and respond very well when we cut out all of the types of food they are sensitive to. Pets and environmental sources like dust and ragweed are more difficult to avoid but having even one allergy free room - no carpet, closed windows, air conditioner or Hepa filter, no pets - might help. Good luck!

My son's doctor has suggested he do allergy testing and possibly do allergy shots (I don't know anything about those) and apparantly these work without side effects. We also started Rhinocourt nose spray which works pretty good.
