My daughter is 5 years old and has been on Singulair for about 2 years now. I was at a loss concerning her behavior for the past 2 years. The anger, aggression, tics in her eyes and legs feeling tingling, unable to express herself, and truly not liking herself and thinking we don't like or love her. All this brought us to take her to therapy. And then all this information regarding side effects of Singulair come out. I brought this to her allergist and he like many others brushed it off. I think it is time the medical community looks very close at this drug concerning side effects with children. How many more parents have to come forward with all the same side effects for these educated doctors to realize there is a hugh psychological and neurological connection with this drug for some children. It has been two days now that my daughter stopped Singulair. Her nose is already starting to drip and her cough is back, but I would much rather deal with these side effects of allergies than watching her go though this mental anguish any longer. I have not seen any changes yet, but it had only been two days.

My doctor put my son on Rhinocourt nose spray and that has helped and then if we have to we do Zyrtec.

My son was on for 8 years and they can't just lose all those characteristics overnight that they have taken years to develop. It has been almost a month for us and I am seeing dramatic changes in him. I think you will also, you just have to give it some more time.

I am so glad you learned about Singulair and found this site. Several other parents (including me) have noted tics in their children as well. Your daughter's behavior sounds just like my son's. He was on S for 5 years, ending just over a month ago. Most of his symptoms are gone but he is still having problems with anger. I think many children adopt coping skills while their brains are corrupted by Singulair and then have to unlearn these maladaptive behaviors once they are free from the effects of the medication.

Please visit our advocacy site at www.parentsforsafety.org and sign our petition for labeling changes. Please pass along the information. We are working to educate the public about these horrible side effects. Feel free to print out and share the information on our site with your daughter's doctor!

Best wishes for a speedy recovery,

To jen1234,
My 5 year old had the same reactions on Singulair. She was on it for a year and was having problems at school with behavior and generally acted almost bipolar! It was TERRIBLE!
I too, asked her Dr. about it and he brushed it off, as well. I took her off of it and she has the runny nose and cough again, but the anger and bipolar characteristics are gone.
I think that with this many people having issues with this drug it should not just contain a warning, but should be removed completely!
What a terrible thing for parents and children to have to go through!
