I have been on Lisinopril and a diuretic for about 1.5 years -- started with 5mg of lisinopril. At first had a slight cough, but went away. In Feb 2008 routine blood tests were done and my ALT - liver enzyme was slightly elevated to 36. ( last test in 2003 was normal) --- had the test repeated in Aug 2008 and the ALT was up to 41. Doctor was not too worried, not very elevated - but I persisted as to why and she sent me for an ultrasound that showed all was normal for my liver, spleen, gallbladder, kidneys. My pressure was up a bit at the Aug appt - so she increased my Lisinopril to 10mg. I had another liver enzyme test done beg of Oct 2008 and now the ALT is up to 66. I told her the only difference is increasing my Lisinopril and that must be the cause for elevated ALT levels. She is not sure -- I am now being referred to a specialist -- but told to stop taking the Lisinopril for 3 weeks and they will see what the levels are. Have only seen a few mentions of elevated liver enzymes as a side effect -- has anyone else experienced?? My AST levels are normal.

Hi...I got your reply to my posting for Lisinopril. I too am concerned about what this Lisinopril will do to my liver enzine levels. The ALT, ALK, & AST. My levels ran very high so I ended up going thru the Mayo clinic twice and they determined I have a condition called N.A.S.H. non alcholic steatohepatitis, like I wrote too much fat in my liver. Nothing they can do for this condtion as of yet, other than diet and they are testing Vit. E for it. They have done test using the drug actigal which does help some. For me I choose to do nothing but suffer with the weakness which I have done for 14 years now. As for you being worried about your ALT levels being 66 which is a little high for a 50 max they say. Mine run in the 156 range. Will be excited like you to see what this Lisinopril will do to my levels. Along with my triglycerides which run very high as well with my liver problem. Levels for triglycerides should be 35-160 mine run 545 for now and I have even had them close to 800. What my guess would be is the Lisinopril is going thru your liver and making your levels rise. The higher your levels the worse energy you will have. At my worst I have to sleep almost 16 hours a day to get enough rest to let my liver catch up to feel good enough to make it thru the day....Makes for a hard time holding down an 8-9 hour work day which I have done so far. So now when this Lisinopril adds another weakness which I discribed as more of a tiredness I cant seem to relieve with some caffine for some zip makes me worried. Plus the bad scratchy feeling from the pills is not something I am looking forward too hope it gets better. Well drop me some more lines if U like I will post my blood test after the 15th when I return to my DR. or find your link and send You a special message so you dont miss it.

Ok here it goes again........tryed to post didnt sign in right didnt take.

Results from my blood work.

current AST 32, ALT 87, ALK 145

prev. time AST 27, ALT 74, ALK 137

time before that. AST 49, ALT 156, ALK 134

triglycerides down from 545 to 330 made me happier. ( Have had that at 800 before then you really drag no energy )

For now I am staying on 10mg Lisinopril which knocks my BP down to 135/85 most days but of course it was 160/110 in his office so it helps but get worked up it dont hold.

My symth. are down to just 2 hours of angry stomach with a slight chest pressure, loose bowel with gas non stop. Plus a tiredness, more like sleepy feeling almost til its time to take another pill.

My brother takes the same drug he has taught me to make sure you swallow it all the way with milk first so no powder get down your throat which causes the couch and what I would discribe as hives down your pipe. I tryed taking half a pill and put it on my tounge and it got bumps that hurt rather bad. Like being bit by a snake or bug, so imagine what it does inside you. Plus I think its causing me some ED problems which I will try and fig. out next....I say just add a couple of blue pills each month to these so a guy has something to look forward too taking these. Ha.

Well hope this helps you some and good luck with what ever you choose to do.

Drop me a line back love to hear from you.......at myring78@bevcomm.net
