Being a scientist, I am reluctant to say my symptoms are completely due to the statin (Crestor) that I've been on for 2.5 yrs. Started with a bulging/herniated disk in my lumbar region 4 months ago. Then increasing leg pain and major leg/foot cramping at night. Had my blood checked for electrolytes and CPK. Electrolytes were ok but elevated CPK (muscle breakdown enzyme). Doc took me off Crestor and now a month later, no cramping and much reduced leg pain. Am going in for a cholesterol check next week to see what the levels are. I wonder how much the Crestor played in my herniated disk. Certainly it has played a role in the leg pain and cramping as I no longer have it to the same degree. The FDA and surgeon general talk about putting everyone on statins. BIG MISTAKE!!!! Maybe CoQ helps, but I am done with statins.

Good you stopped the dangerous statin. Unfortunately, all drs. know is to push drugs instead alternatives. You can send a report to FDA to complain about Crestor, go to www.fda./gov/medwatch.

Since you are a scientist, you might be interested in worldwide Data on serum cholesterol levels and rates of heart disease. More than I can type in here. But the bottom line is: There is no relationship in serum cholesterol and cardiovascular disease. Thats a hard one to swallow when you consider that the cholesterol theory has penetrated the corridors of the finest medical facilities in the world, BUT.... it has never been proven. And in recent years, as clinicle trials on cholesterol drugs fail to save lives, doubts are surfacing if these drugs ever did anyone any good.

herniated disk? Amongst the dozens of problems I had was a total hip replacement right side, still haven't fully recovered 14 months later muscular dystrophy. was crying in pain for total hip replacement left hand side, now 10 months off statins left hand side gives odd slight niggle sure doesn't need replacement not even panadol.
To many in the medical fraternity completey refuse to apply very simple process of elimination diagnostic skills which hurts so much when you trust in these people or should I say used to trust. pleased that you are on the improve. best to you from new zealand.

I have been on cholesterol lowering drugs since the early 80's until about 4 years ago when I started experiencing intolerable side effects. My cholesterol can get over 400 so after much nagging from my doctor, I was willing to give 40 mg generic Lipitor a try again. After 9 months, I experienced the worst leg and foot cramps at night (same as the symptoms 4 years ago). It got so bad, I was up about 6 times a night hoping I could get the cramp out before the muscles snapped and needless to say, sleep became an issue. Also at night, the muscles in my legs would feel like rubber bands being snapped every 5 seconds, all up and down both legs. My doctor insists this is being caused by my back and not the Lipitor. I got off of it a few weeks ago, tried it again one night and the symptons came back. Without the drug, both symptoms go away. I think statins are evil.
