I was on the NuvaRing for about a year, and in that time I had recurrent urinary tract infections (UTIs), one which developed into a kidney infection (this required taking antibiotics, which I generally avoid, because it's a rather dangerous infection). I had never had a UTI before, so I asked my doctor more than once if the near-chronic UTIs could be related to the Ring and she said that it was very unlikely; she wasn't aware of that ever being a problem. Shockingly enough, when I finally got fed up in May and threw my NuvaRing in the trash, my problems disappeared: I have had one very mild UTI since then. I'm mad at my doctor, and at the doctors of all the women who have responded to this site. I'm not so naive; I know doctors take money from pharmaceutical companies, but how could so many healthcare professionals ignore many repeated complaints of similar side effects?

I have a niece who just had to take antibiotics (something we too avoid) who had a terrible kidney and bladder infection. Honestly, I think all the women who have had these side effects should approach both the FDA and a good lawyer to approach the company who has made, and covered up the side effects. There are way too many women who have (posted) experienced these side effects for it to simply be a coincidence. Fight back you guys!!! Hugs to all,

My daughter has been on the Nuvaring for over one year and has had frequent UTI's during that period. Her current bladder infection developed into a very severe kidney infection. She was very sick and in quite a bit of pain. Finally the doctor recommeded that she remove the Nuvaring just in case their was a connection. I would like to add that she has been extremely moody and snappy during the last year which is not her underlying personality. I do believe their is a strong connection if not a direct connection to the Nuvaring and her frequent UTI's and moodiness.

I've actually been on NuvaRing for a few years. I want to say 2005 but I am not sure. I have actually NEVER had a problem with it until recently. Actually this past week I had my first problem with it ever. I felt a weird clicking sensation while having intercourse. I've never felt the ring before, during sex or otherwise. My SO had mentioned feeling it althoug he is the first partner I've had that has ever really noticed it as well. I haven't spoken to my doctor about it yet so I can't give you guys any answers re: that one. Actually if anyone has any suggestions or has been through that it would be a help. Im hoping maybe just poor placement? Although I somehow doubt that. I don't know.

I've noticed some people saying itching, burning. I've had that recently too. Sorry. I know tmi but hey, we are talking about the nether regions. I know its nothing... well.. scary... as I stay up to date with my health regularly (every six months) and was recently at the doctor. I wonder if infections can be a side effect from it? As with EVERY BC there are side effects. Truth be told, after years of being on this one and having tried so many others I do like this one the best. I WILL be someone upset if the intercourse issue can't be resolved. (I hear you can take it out for three hours. Im paranoid so Im not gung-ho about that idea). For everyone just starting - stick it out if you can. Most people I know who were on it and waited it out for a few months now really really like it.

I think that my Nuvaring physically rests on my urethra. Honestly, I like this BC. I am thinking of cutting the ring, and tying it so it is a smaller loop. The Nuvaring help line said don't, but who knows! I am sick of the chronic UTI!

I started the NuvaRing 9 days ago. I immediately got a bladder infection (and I NEVER get sick) and it turned into a full-blown kidney infection (which I thought was the flu for 3 days). Just got back from ER. May have to do ultrasound tomorrow if I don't get a little better tonight (I got a shot of antibiotics). This is more painful than the 2 c-sections I've had. After doing some research, I'm removing the Nuva Ring NOW!
