I had a chronic sinus infection and my doctor put me on Levaguin and 80 mg of prednisone. I am 62 and I take only synthroid as a prescribe. drug. I told my doctor I was a borderline diabetic. She told me the side effect were bone weakening in the hip and pelvis and stomach upset. At first I had a lot of energy and sleep a lot less. I just thought I was getting better. I tapered down to 1 1/2 . After taking them for 11 days I was not able to function. My body was under extreme distress, I have very excellent blood pressure and I am in very good health. I have been off the drug for 4 days. I am still experiencing sweating, hypertension, extreme muscle spasms. I am unable to wear my contacts, I am short tempered and I am normally the opposite. I have horrible headaches and I very seldom ever get headaches. I told my doc and she said it would go away in time. My body is fatigued I am have trouble focusing, sleeplessness. I don't know where to turn at this point. Sometimes I feel like I should go to er because of the hyperventilating and rapid heart beat. I am afraid to exercise. I am eating a lot of high protein foods, I am not gaining weight, I have lost 7 lbs in two weeks. PLEASE EVALUATE THE RISKS OF THIS DRUG IT HAS BEEN A NIGHTMARE FOR ME. DOCTORS DON'T ALWAYS TELL YOU THE WHOLE TRUTH AND THEY NEED TO BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE FOR THIS.

Did your doctor tell you that prednisone can make your blood sugar go up? Just wondering

Hi, I'm a female, 51 yrs. old. In Oct. 2007 I was prescribed Levaquin for possible pleurisy. After 2 days my blood pressure went up about 20 points and they told me to discontinue. About a week later they decided it was not pleurisy and might be a pinched nerve. They put me on prednisone. After 3 days, my blood pressure went up 30 to 40 points and my heart rate 110 (very high for me). I was jerking all over. They told me to discontinue it immediately and the symptoms should go away in a few days. My blood pressure went down after about a month. The heart palpatations went away after about 2 months. My brain feels like it is tremoring every day and has been ever since. It has now been almost 15 months. I've been to three regular MD's, a heart doctor, neurologist and they all say the same thing, "I've never heard of anything like that". Then they say let's try this or that and come back in three months. I feel your pain!!!

Hi, I'm wondering if you could tell me how long the muscle spasms lasted. My 12 year old daughter was recently diagnosed with Chron's disease and was on prednisone for just over 5 months. She has had horrible side effects. She has now been off it for 1 month, but started getting numerous muscle spasms throughout the day. The doctor suggested that the prednisone affected her muscles, but also increasing anxiety. This is the only place that I found people complaing about prednisone and muscle spasms. Any input would be welcomed.
