I feel like I might be an extreme case, so don't use this as a standard. I have been off Flomax for 5 months. I have still not fully recovered from all of the side effects, however they have slowly lessened over time. I read an article from the FDA about Flomax, specifically that the effect it has on the body has been seen to persist for up to 8 or 9 months. The drug has been out for some time but I don't there has been enough study to determine not necessarily what the side effects of the drug are, but rather how the drug changes to body. The drug itself is purged out of the system within a day or so. It is the changes that the drug makes to the receptors that, at least in my non-professional opinion, causes all the long term issues. Flomax blocks the receptors on smooth muscle that receive hormones like norepinephrine, dopemine and serotonin. Essentially, the hormones that give your muslces energy. I believe it is these interactions that temporaily disable these receptors and ulitmately cause the "side effects" of sleeplessness, pain, vision problems, and so on. Lack of libido could also be attributed to a lack of the right hormones being in place. Of course, this is all conjecture, I am not a doctor. But, I have read a lot about Flomax. It has certainly caused a lot of problems in my life but I feel that things are improving. I am going to give myself the full 9 months before I start to worry. Waiting that long seems impossible but take my word for it. I have had every test you can think of: MRIs, blood work, urine samples, all my enzymes, blah blah blah. For all accounts, my doctors say that I am completely healthy. So, if they can't see any problems, I don't think anything serious is going on. It will just take time and patience. Sorry for the long-winded reply. Good luck, and hang in there.
