I have read that myself. But, one of my friends has high cholesterol and unfortunately, she had 2 strokes. . . . . . so, I don't know.
Thank you for studying the cholesterol issue.
Sadly, to say, where I live (Sweden) - the advertising is increasing for each day and it`s about different types of food which the manufacturer claims can "lower your cholesterol".
It`s Becel margarine and some kind of breakfast cereal.
Becel (Unilever) is touring the whole of Sweden to promote special "cholesterol-products".
They offer cholesterol tests for 20 Sw.Cr.
The money goes to a Heart-and Lung Foundation for research.
By doing this they are scaring people unnecessary - because high cholesterol is nothing to be scared of - for most people.
Some of these people will then visit the doctor who will most likely prescribe statins for the rest of their lives with known result (read all the stories here).
Some people are lucky to get side effects right away.
Others get them after many years and do not connect it with this medication. The same goes for the doctor who often claims that it`s just old age or another disease.
If all the profits from cholesterol lowering remedies were to dry up overnight, by morning nobody would be telling us to lower our cholesterol.
It wasn't the cholesterol that gave your friend the stroke, it was plaque in the
arteries leading to the brain. . These are not the same thing.
If there is any doubt that Statins will kill you, look at Tim Russert.
I, too have been doing lots of research as I had a heart attack 5 weeks ago. I am 39 and a healthy vegetarian with low cholesterol and blood pressure. I don't smoke, drink or take the pill. There is something going in me and many others that has NOTHING to do with cholesterol! (PS I got off the statins after 3 weeks.)
