I have been on Flomax about a week. I finally stopped it, but the doctor insists he wants me to stay on it. I guess I have to weigh the slight benefit of taking Flomax with the changes in my quality of life. For example:
My ears are ringing and I can't answer them.
I am up 2-3 times a night to urinate. Prior to Flomax I could sleep through the night, unless the cat walked on me and I decided to get up and go.
Urine output increased, as did the feeling of urgency. It was much like taking Lasix, a diuretic. Along with that I was getting cramps in the calfs and feet, and once in the abdomen. That is what happens with Lasix if you don't take potassium with it.
For a while I was getting dizzy or feeling as if I was forgetting things. That seems to have improved now that I am off of Flomax.
There have also been changes in bowel habits, some bleeding, and a dull ache much like what I feel after a doctor has done a prostate examination.
So, I would have to say that Flomax is not something I want to take for the rest of my life. If it causes this much trouble in just a week, what does it do to the liver and kidneys over several years?
