I've have the Mirena in for about 4 months now. I'm not sure if this is a side affect or not but I've been having horrible hot flashes. They are so bad that I hardly have enough time to get completely ready in the morning. I don't wear make up that much anymore because I'm to hot. My son is 6 months old now so my hormones should be pretty much back to normal. I've had my thyroid checked and it's not that. I've also been having anxiety whick I've NEVER had before. I don't know if that's due to having 3 kids now or the Mirena. Has anyone else experienced these side affects? I also haven't lost much weight since I've had my son which is also very odd.

I don't know what age you are but I've read that Mirena can bring on an early menopause which may explain the hot flashes? I also had feelings of anxiety and heart palpitations with Mirena that went on for a week after removal

I had the Mirena inserted when I was 33 (I'm 35 now) and put up with it for 9 months. I started having hot flashes a few weeks after my Mirena was in place. I'd guess it was 3 to 4 times a week. The hot flashes were so bad, that even in the winter, I would have to turn on the window A/C unit and stand in front of it or go outside in 30 degree weather to feel a little better. 3 months in, I had my first anxiety attack ever. I thought I was losing my mind. I was literally running through my house, trying to get that panic feeling to go away, which to this day makes me cry just thinking about it. I'm almost 7 months post-removal and haven't had a hot flash or anxiety attack in almost 4 months. My main side effect from Mirena was a dizzy-passing out kind of feeling that still lingers around my period. I would advise having it removed ASAP. Good luck and I hope you feel better real soon.

I had hot flashes, which continued after removal. The Mirena put me into early menopause. I was just 43 and went from thinking (and my Dr thinking) that I needed birth control to post-menopause in a matter of 5 months. I also had anxiety for the first time while I had the Mirena. It has gradually subsided to where it is now very, very infrequent, thankfully. I am 9 months post-removal.
