My 18 yr old daughter has been on singulair for several years and has complained this week of numbness in her feet and toes. I have told her to stop the drug. Is this a reversible side effect? Does anyone know if there is anything else to do?

Sounds like you should talk to her doctor,Churgg Strauss is known to happen from this drug and those would be the symptoms, not sure if that is reversible Good Luck

Good instinct!!! I would definitely bring this to her doctor's attention. Read the "postmarketing experience" section in the adverse events part of the prescribing info at www.singulair.com. I think the postmarketing info is on the bottom of page 15.

I took my son off Singulair after 5 years of behavior and mood problems. When I found out about all the side effects of Singulair I had his doctor do a complete workup just to make sure everything was ok.

So much is unknown about this drug. Our advocacy group at www.parentsforsafety.org has a forum on recovery that you may wish to read or contribute to.

Good luck and I hope your daughter is ok.

I was on singulair for only a week an one morning i woke up and from my waist down it felt like I had lead . I could not walk I was taken to emergency and was in the hospital for two weeks from my abdomen down I developed a massive blood clot two days into my stay at the hospital. They asked what medication I took and I said I had started on singulair. The pharmacy was called and it does cause numbness and tingling of lower extremeties. read the side affects. And now i am in my third month of recovery. I went from a wheel chair to a walker and with Gods help walking . I have a ways to go but I regret the day I was put on that medicine Please take your daughter off of that. And as i experienced your perscribing doctor will deny that singulair was the cause so do not be surprised if your doctor says no also.

You need to see your pulmonary doctor or the doctor who had prescribed this drug.

You can obtain info regarding singulair by going to fda.gov.
In the search tool bar, put in singulair and you will see the needed info.

You can also go to your pharmacy, and get the actual insert that accompanies the drug, not the handout that the pharmacy gives you. You want the disclosure from the mfg. I picked one up last evening, and you can see the side effects (including numbing and tingling).

I have been on this drug for ten years and my new pulmonary doctor told me have churg-strauss syndrome and to get off of the singulair immediately! I am seeing a rheumatogist and a new neurologist to see if I have permanet nerve damage (which I believe I do).

Do not wait. You must be aggressive. You can also go to vasculitis.org and see if there is a doctor in your area, or contact the vasculitis foundation in Kansas by calling their toll free phone number to see if there is a doctor in your area who can give you answers. I recently had a visit with a rheumatologist (Tuesday) and who is referring me to a neurologist who specializes in nerve damage.

Good Luck,

Marla

Just wanted to add that the insert that accompanies Singulair may not be the most recent. It has come to my attention that some pharmacies were still distributing the older ones no too long ago. Beware. The best place to look for side effects is at DailyMed http://dailymed.nlm.nih.gov/dailymed/about.cfm OR the drug manufacturer's website.
