I, too have facial "fur" not sure if it will ever leave. I am trying to get weaned from prednisone, I've been on it a little over a year now.I am down to 7 mg a day, and my appetite has lessened!!! Hooray, Hooray. I've lost a total of 7 lbs. Sounds stupid to be so happy but it is the only high point of my whole year. I have gained 50 lbs and it aint fun!!So if you can get down to around 8 or 9 mg maybe your appetite will slow, as mine has.good luck!!.
be aware that prednisone also causes osteoporosis. my mom was on it for two years and she had several vertebra fractures and collapsed from 5'5" to 4'11"
in her medical records, it actually said that she had "medically induced osteoporosis"
then of course, they put her on fosomax. that was one way to drum up some business.
the whole time she was on prednisone, she was achey, chubby and kinda manic. she had such muscle pain that she had to sleep in a reclining chair because she could not get out of bed on her own. that was the thing that hurt her the most- that she couldn't sleep in her own bed with my father.
i blame the medical profession for ruining her life. don't let them ruin yours!
I feel for you, hon, I really do (even though your post gave me reason to laugh as I can certainly relate to "searching for food to store it for winter" and "fur" on the face LOL). Truly, the "fur" is the least of your probs with this stuff. Yes, Prednisone has MANY nasty side effects. I was on it years ago for herniated discs in my neck (which helped at the time)...but MAN, moon face, hunger, facial hair (I'm a lady too!), depression, insomnia (got THAT now!) and toes curling in on each other at 3 am while trying to sleep and severe leg cramping was definitely NOT my idea of a good time. I was back on the Prednisone again this week, now for my asthma-related bronchitis...and was taking 40 mg a day and yesterday was my LAST day to be on it (thank God). Total of 4 days. But, like I said, now I CAN'T sleep! I've had exactly THREE hrs of sleep in two days. Oh, and my feet are starting to cramp again. Ugggh. Anyway, I can totally relate. Just to let you know, when you're down to taking almost NO Prednisone (or none at all), the moon face and everything else DOES go away. Actually, the first time I was on it (a week), it got SO bad that I took myself off it and yelled at my doctor for NOT telling me ALL the side effects I "might" have (I had almost ALL of them). Just a bit of caution though...have your doctor slowly "wean" you off the med if you want off it and don't do it on your own...it could be dangerous. Anyway, my asthma has gotten a "little" better...but I think I'm going to have to head back to the doctor for more Prednisone :(. I'm going to ask her for less milgms though. Good luck to you and try to keep in good spirits (I know it's hard).
