I stumbled onto this website just today looking for information on another drug. Little did I know what I was going to find and so happy I did. I have been taking Zocor for nearly 5 yrs. now. My health has taken a spiral downhill. I too, have been experiencing almost every symptom that has been mentioned. Rt. shoulder pain, hand pain, pain and tingling in hands and feet, leg cramps, muscle weakness, numbness, memory loss, itching, fuzzy headed at time, can't concentrate, and trouble breathing. My doctor has told me my cholesterol is just fine the last two times I've had my checkup, but has never suggested I come off it. I guess I will be calling him tomorrow.

Did you tell your Doctor about your problems?

No, because I have severe back problems and chalked it up to that, but will be discussing this with him as soon as possible

I had every thing you have described here and a lot more including a total hip replacement that I now know I did not need. Why? because I was still very sore after the operation my other hip was equally sore my shoulders knees neck etc were all incredibly sore now all of that pain has massivly reduced since I stopped taking statins 10 months ago. Be very aware I got some very severe withdrawal problems when I stopped the statins. Load your self up with COQ10 the kaneka ubiquinol brand. Search simvastatin and lipitor on this site. Check spacedoc DOT com this is all the pits. Best to you from New Zealand. I started on that 1 pill 5 yrs ago and ended up taking 20 pills a day. When I stopped that 1 pill all the others gradually were no longer needed. I now take pain killer only plus natural supplements.

Just read your reply. A couple of questions for u. What kind of withdrawal did u have from coming off this drug? I see my doctor tomorrow to discuss with him my symptoms. Also, what is the COQ10 kaneka and where did u find it. I haven't ever seen the ubiquinol label. Please respond. Will check site later. Thanks

Hi I used to take atorvastatin few years ago. Now I am taking simvastatin since about 6-8 months. And I am having many problems.
1. memory loss. 2. Reduced concentration.
Last week I started feeling nauseated and tingling in my feet. 3. I am having visual disturbances and eye doctor says my eyes are fine.

What should I do to stop these symptoms. Tell me what will happen if I stop the statins.

dev 73 . . .Statins are dangerous drugs that cause MANY side effects. The drs. and the drug co's are doing a SCAM on the anti-cholesterol drugs . . .it is all about big $$ business. In reality, your mind/body needs cholesterol to function properly . I stopped taking it .. . "cold turkey" and did a detox to rid of this POISON from my body . . . .DON'TLET YOUR DR. TO CON YOU.

taper off your statins gradually. cut pills in half. don't stop them cold turkey- it increases certain risks. if you taper down over a 2 - 3 wk period, you should be fine.
what will happen if you stop taking statins? you should start to feel better. your memory loss should clear up. your cholesterol numbers might rise but since you're not going to have them checked, you won't know.
you'll go by how you feel and not by some arbitrary number created by a drug company to sell as many drugs as possible to as many people as possible

i'm reading a book by dr Duane Graveline right now and he explains why statins shouldn't be stopped cold turkey. sadly i'm at work right now and the book is at home and i don't want to misquote anything. when i'm home later this evening, i'll look up the info and add it here

propsguy . . . .thanks . I am sure it is better to taper off . . I did that with my blood pressure drug, but, with Lipitor, I couldn't stand the side effects any longer, so, I did "cold turkey" with no side efects and then I did the detox.

ok, so here it is: why you should taper down off statins instead of stopping cold turkey. if they have a good effect at all on your cardiovascular system, it is not because they lower your cholesterol but because they are anti-inflammatory. they make your platelets non-sticky. so if you quit all at once, your platelets might "gum" up and you'll have a small increased risk of stroke.
but if you come off them gradually, your platelet stickiness will have time to readjust (and you'll have time to take some omega3 oil and coQ10) and you'll be fine
of course, you might just be so impatient to be done with them, that like 777, you quit at once. in that case, you'll probably be fine too

propsguy . . thanks . . . for the info. . . before I did "cold turkey", (2008) , I was taking co-q-10, omega 3, etc. .. . .so, apparently, that's why I didn't have side effects for "quit at once". . . . thanks again.
