Hi, I have had to deal with bronchitis for a couple times a year due to a lung disease for 14 years since diagnosis now. Anyway, the only thing that really does help me get over it faster is the levaquin. The Z-pac isn't strong enough for those people that seem to get bronchitis frequently. Yet, if you were given levaquin 750mg instead of 500 mg, you probably had pneumonia, not bronchitis. The rattling of the lungs is affiliated with wheezing and bronchitis or pneumonia what ever you want to call it. Only an x-ray will show if you have pneumonia also, coughing up blood. Anyway, yes I have found it gives me weird thoughts, aches and pains in my joints, but over all I am so glad it is out there to use. Or, many of us would probably be dead from the bacterial infections associated with the lungs by now. Things that will help you I have found while on it to lesson some side effects, is take calcium, also probiotics to add to good flora in the lining of your gut. Exercise will strengthen your lungs, too once you are over bronchitis and make it a regular part of your regime. Ha ha you would think I was a pulmonary doctor, not, only a social worker! Good luck to all who get bronchitis and the rattling in the lungs. By no means is it fun! Good day! Laura
This is in response to the other responder. You are lucky that you have not experienced severe adverse reactions to Levaquin. It sounds like your reactions have been very mild. You should know that the more fluoroquinolones you are exposed to, the greater your risk of developing severe reactions. Some of these reactions are life threatening or even fatal. I have suffered a severe reaction and will NEVER take Levaquin or any of its cousins ever again. It's been 11 months for me now and I still have painful neuropathy and tendon pain. It's been the worse 11 months of my life.
