I recently started taking topamax for migraines. After increasing my dose to 75 mg twice a day, I am almost migraine free. However, my hair is extremely oily and having to wash it with a clarifying shampoo twice a day. Nothing else has changed other than my this medication so I am assuming it is a side effect of the Topamax. Has anybody else experienced this?

I also take topamax for Migraine headaches it is great. I have not had a migraine since I started taking it. It does effect your hair in some way. Mine is not oily but I have really dry hair to begin with and now it is more dry. Maybe it depends on your body to begin with. But you are right it does effect your hair. What goes in must come out.

Mine has never been oily, but I know that now after taking Topamax for almost 2 years within the last few months just one of my latest side effects is not only more oily hair at the scalp, but it develops this strange smell after only one day. I usually wash my hair every other day, but now I have to wash it every day due to this strange almost disgusting medicine and icky smell.
