I am asking a question on behalf of my brother. He had a stent inserted about 5 years ago due to blockage in one artery. The doctor put him on 20mg Lipitor and Plavix. Ever since then he has been getting Afib. Twice he has had to go to the hospital to get his heart back in rythm and other times he's able to get it back on his own. He has cut back to 10mg Lipitor and takes 100 mg COQ10. Has anyone else had Afib with Lipitor? He seems to think it's the stent causing it and I'm convinced it's the Lipitor. By the way, his cholesterol was not high, only his triglycerides. Thanks for any input.

There are natural products to lower triglycerides and/or cholesterol without taking dangerous drugs. Plavix is another dangerous drug. Lipitor can cause many side effects, but, I haven't heard that it would cause Afib. Hopefully, someone else would know. Good that your brother is taking the co-q-10.

You are correct. I have heard of Lipitor causing heart palpitations from a pharmacist. Yes it does deplete coQ10 from the heart muscle, but it also inhibits LDL cholesterol which is the foundation to all steroid hormones, including the adrenal hormone aldosterone, which plays an important role in regulating potassium. If potassium is off then heart palpiations can occur.
