I had Mirena put in about 5 weeks ago to control heavy periods. After about 2 weeks I started experiencing a foggy head feeling and bouts of dizziness. I didn't relate this to anything and thought it might be from lack of sleep. Last week I stated having spells of rapid heartbeat and nervousness that lasted anywhere from 10 minutes to 10 hours. Exercising is out of the question since it makes me now feel lightheaded. I feel like I can't think or concentrate. At first I didn't think the symptoms were related to Mirena, but since I am otherwise very healthy and don't take any other medications, I started doing a search online and came to this website. I called the doctor and told the nurse my symptoms and she called me back to say that they never heard of anything like that and I must have some other medical problem...They insisted it was not Mirena causing the symptoms. I mentioned that my symptoms are actually ones listed by the manufacturer as "possible" side effects. They disagreed with that. Now I'm thinking of going to another doctor to remove it, if they'll do it. Can anyone tell me if they had these symptoms and if they got "better" with time? Or do they just get "worse"..??? If I knew that they would improve I would hold on a little longer. Has anyone had improvement after the first few months?

I had the exact same problem with the Mirena. The dizziness was so severe I almost passed out a few times, which was really scary being a stay at home mom with a 1 year old! Well, I dealt with that for 9 months, thinking it would get better, but it didn't. I had it removed 7 months ago and was also told that it was not the Mirena causing the dizziness. The dizziness is almost completely gone now (it lingers a little around my time of the month) and the lightheadedness dissappeared a few days after removal! It IS the Mirena and I would insist that they remove it. Good Luck to you.

I had the dizziness and anxiety right away. I also had a general unwell feeling. I gained 5 lbs in one week. My doctor told me that no one had ever complained about this product. It was a huge mistake for me to have it inserted. I insisted on removal after only 3 weeks, I still don't feel completely better, but I am 80 percent there. Good luck

I had severe dizziness/lightheadedness/brain fog that only got worse over the course of the 5 months that I had the Mirena. Like you, I couldn't exercise, heck, I couldn't even close my eyes in the shower or I would fall down. It was terrifying. I had it removed in Feb and the brain fog went away fairly quickly...like about a month (it was so bad that it was hard to function at work, I would stop mid-sentence because I would forgot what I was about to say). The dizziness got milder and milder, and like the previous poster, only seems to come back around my cycle....although not nearly as bad as while on the Mirena. It is ABSOLUTELY the Mirena!!! I think it is the progestin in it, personally, which does NOT just stay local....my blood tests confirmed that! Please don't hesitate to email me if you have any questions about my experience. Taking it out was a snap, less uncomfortable than a pap and took only a second. Take care.....please.

Thanks for the replys. I actually just called the doctor and told them I want it taken out. They are actually seeing me this afternoon. I hope that the side effects wear off soon. I'm hopeful since it hasn't been in that long. Wish me luck and I'll let you know how the symptoms improve. I'm hopeful. Thanks for the input.

I can't believe I'm finally discovered the truth about Mirena. I got the Mirena in August and suddenly I've come down with this very bad dizziness (or 'brain fog' as everyone calls it) and dry eyes for the last 2 weeks and it's getting worse, although I keep telling myself it will go away. I never put the 2 and 2 together, but now I'm very sure it's the Mirena that's doing this to me. I've always wondered what the heck was wrong with me, but after reading all these postings, I'm getting this crap out on my next appointment.

Wow, I had such dizziness, head ache and brain fog while at the movies with some friends I had to leave the theater. As I stumbled out, people must have thought I was on something serious. I have 5 kids and I feel like I can't hold it together. It's this brain fog! Hard to explain to others, but reading your comments makes me think --yes that is how I feel. It's coming out tomorrow.
