I'm an 81yo Caucasian male who has been taking Lisinopril for two years ago. I have suffered through the aches and pains , dry cough lightheadedness , associated with this drug. When I first took 20mg/day, I tracked my BP as frequently as 20 times per day. Some of my symptoms were a result of my BP dropping down to <90/45. So, I decided to titrate my dosage.I split a 20mg tablet in two and tracked my BP for several days. My BP had increased to ~ 105/55. I felt that this was a little on the low side, so I reduced my dose to 5mg/day. My BP now varies between 110 and 120 systolic, and 55-70 diastolic. There are instances where my BP increases, and these can be associated with various regular activities activities. I still have some instances of dry cough and irregular heartbeat, but not to the degree that I had when I was on 10mg/day, and 20mg/day.
I recommend that patients taking lisinopril purchase a wrist BP cuff and do what I did,i.e track your BP and vary your dosage, 'til you find what your body can tolerate. Remember that your side-effects may vary. You may have some GI symptoms and musculoskeletal symptoms that others do not experience.
In today's practice of medicine, MDs do not always have the time to experiment with each patient, so the patient must do some of the logical investigations independently.
Remember, no one knows your body better than you, and your PCP or Cardio MD only sees you for a short period of time. I have tried five statin drugs and cannot tolerate any of them. Alternate, naturally-occurring substances are available.
