Hi I started taking Lipitor when I was about 41 and gradually noticed a big toe becoming numb. Then later another toe became numb. I had just started swimming about this time with fins and thought at first it may have been caused by them. But then I stopped swimming and the numbness continued. I visited a Neurologist a couple of years ago who tested for everything and found some peripheral nerve damage to the feet. I said the only thing I could think of was Lipitor. He said here was no conclusive evidence it causes this but explained how nerves are made of Lipids and lipitor limits the production of lipids. I stopped taking it but later my GP said I need to go on something for my cholesterol. He put me on Crestor. I took a Lipitor the other week and my toes tingled that night. So I am convinced it is Lipitor. I am not sure how to reverse the damage though.

I suggest you to stop taking these dangerous statins. They can cause many side effects. If necessary, there are many natural products/alternatives to control your cholesterol. Drs. don't know about the side effects . . . . .they just push drugs since that is all they know.

It's just a matter of time sorry to tell you. Ive been off the statins for 11 months now and still have side effects. Try coq10 BUT make sure you take the ubiquinol form not the cheaper ubiquione form and half a dozen fish oil tablets a day. You are lucky you have only got the tingles. Best to you from New Zealand.

all statins are pretty much the same. there are so many of them because different companies each want their share of the lucrative market. if you haqve a bad response to lipitor, you'll most likely have a bad response to crestor.
you can get your cholesterol down to where it should be for you, regardless of what it says on the charts, by cutting out animal foods, including dairy, and loading up on vegetables and fiber. that way, your liver will make all the cholesterol your body needs and you won't be adding any extra.
all animal foods contain cholesterol. vegetable foods do not contain any.
get off these drugs before you suffer any more damage

Budd, your neurologist was correct when he said that lipitor limits the production of lipids. Lipids are important for proper neurological function. You are correct to blame the lipitor. The best way to reverse the damage is to stop inhibiting cholesterol with statins. Stop the lipitor. Then hopefully your LDL cholesterol will rise and begin making repairs to damaged tissue and nerves. LDL is not all "bad" as marketeers claim. It does serve vital biological roles and this is one of them. As far as LDL causing heart attacks, well, thats never been proven. Some physicians now call it a "fairy tale."

Please help,

My father had taken Lipitor for about 2 years. He slowley was suffering muscle weekness and dizzyness. The Dr's did nothing. Until my mother mentioned something about what she read about Lipitor and it was not until then they took him off it. But now he can barley walk and has been hospitalized for a couple of months now. He is in a rehap center trying to build up his muscle. But the Dr.s are not saying what has caused this. Is the damage reverseable? What can we do to get the Dr's to admit the problem or will they?
