I also was on Paxil after a major illness. As I got better, I realized I had no emotions. I couldn't cry, but I wasn't really happy. I felt like I was floating through life. I was 53 at the time and I also gained weight and didn't care about my house cleaning, etc. I was just maintaining.
I tried other meds and finally found one that works for me. It is lexapro. I am on the lowest doseage and I even cut that back. When I get into a bad time (like now at Christmas or just winter months) I add a 1/2 pill to my week. If I seem to need more, I add another 1/2 pill a week. It has been a few years and I don't seem to need very large doses to help me out.
Depression seems to run in my family, so I do know I need meds to keep me going. I have a normal, active life and feel that my personallity is me again. I can cry and laugh!!!!
I think paxil is more of an anxiety med. than for depression and I also have a med for anxiety, but only take as I need it - which is very seldom. My memory also has improved since giving up the paxil!!
Hope this helps you!!
