Thank you for this site...although it is too late being I already poisoned myself with my 1st dosage - I know better now to STOP TAKING THIS DRUG IMMEDIATELY. 31 y/o male - non smoker - In good overall health. What happened...(brief history of what got me to the point of being prescribed this horrid drug) I caught a cold a few days after drinking quite heavily at a wedding (Aprox 1 month ago). It was severe enough for me to take a trip to this new doctor that is in my network and nearby (how I wish I could use my old family doctor that is out of network). Symptoms then were congestion in my head and upper chest, cold sweats, runny nose. The doctor told me to take some over the counter stuff and try to fight it off w/ Mucinex, and Zyrtec - and lots of liquids. If that didn't work, he asked me to return. It took about 5 days, and I seemed to kick the cold. Approximately 2 weeks went by where I was feeling fine, then it seemed as if I was coming down with something again. (Last Thursday was when I started feeling ill) I think what brought it on this time was breathing in excess dust at work opening some skids of paper in our warehouse. Anyhow, this time around I had a pretty serious cough, felt feverish, and fatigued. Sunday morning I woke up and took two Mucinex to break up the cough (which work great by the way)...and I hacked up something awful enough to call my doctors emergency line and have him paged. I was ready to go to the ER. It wasn't just phlegm or mucas - it was a soild mass of lord knows what containing blood. It look like an organ from a small critter. Doctor said to keep taking the Mucinex and if I didn't feel better to come see him. The coughing got worse on Monday, and the mucus I was spitting up wasn't pretty. I went to see him yesterday afternoon (Tuesday) and he said its time to start you on an antibiotic and diagonsed me with an Upper Respiratory Infection. He gave me Avelox, and Advair, and I asked for some of the good cough syrup w/ the codeine. He also sent me for a chest X-ray. I got home around 4pm, made some food, then took some syrup and tried the advair. I waited to take the Avelox til later on in the evening so I could set up a routine as I work nights and 9pm would be good. I took the Avelox, around then, along with another dose of the cough syrup. Around 1 hour later I felt extremely nauseous. I would burp, and feel almost ready to vomit...it was my body rejecting this horrible drug. The nausea came and went, came and went - then I got tired. I laid down around 11pm and then the REAL trouble started. I must have fell asleep for about 30 mins, then woke up suddenly gasping for air...It felt like my heart was about to stop. I sat up in the bed panicked. I then got a little nervous, but calmed myself down, drank another glass of water and tried to fall back asleep. Sure enough just as I was about to drift off, the same sudden feeling of my breathing or heartbeat was interrupted and I sat up again. I had tingling in my chin area and in my arms. Walking to the bathroom I felt slightly disoriented and dizzy, and my legs and whole body felt weak. I also started getting itchy in my legs and groin area. Now I'm scared to go to sleep so I come to the computer and started researching this Avelox. It's 3:30 am now as I'm writing this. I looked at this site and http://www.fluoroquinolones.org/ before decided to post my experience. I am still very itchy, slight nauseous, and feel disoriented. I'm scared to lay down to sleep now, but hopefully that will wear off soon - but I feel very nervous, uncontrollably. I almost want to induce vomiting to maybe get out any of the drug that is left in my stomach, but hate vomiting. I will not take another dosage of this Avelox, no matter what this doctor tells me...and will give him a piece of my mind for prescribing this instead of something like ammoxocillin or just penicillin.

So about 5 mins ago the nausea took over and I vomited very violently in the toilet.

3 or 4 monster hurls of what was mostly water in a projectile fasion - then the last one of some of what I ate earlier. Nasty, but hope I start feeling better soon.

No longer feeling nauseous, but now have a slight pain my lower right abdomen.

Damn this Avelox....

Figures I get all the wonder drugs. 1st Bextra, then Vioxx, now this. At least the anti inflammatories they took off the market actually seemed to help...Avelox is straight up POISON.

Hi

Since the beginning of December 2008 I have been fighting which has been a Sinusitis infection with bronchitis. At the time I did not know what it was, as I thought it was a really bad cold. On December 20th I decided to go to a clinic other than my own because my doctor was gone on vacation. The doctor I saw told me, even though I decribed the green, yellow, grey, black and maroon mucus I was hacking up, that it is viral as my lungs sounded good. He told me to drink a lot of water, sound familiar John? On December 26th I went yet to another clinic where the doctor there examined me and told me that I have a very bad sinus infection and of course bronchitis. He gave me a prescription for clarithromycin (I never had this drug before) and Nasonex spray. Like you John, I am used to taking Amoxicillin.Anyways, the clarithromycin was very strong and I ensured that I would not have stomach cramps or frequent trips to the washroom by taking "PB 8 Pro-Biotic Acidophilus" to restore the good bacteria in my intestines. However, I did experience the same breathing problems as you did, the tingling, cold sweats, shakes, numbness and muscle pain.

That drug only relieved symptoms for approximately a day, then they returned. I finished the prescription but the infection & bronchitis came back. Since my doctor had returned from vacation I explained to him what I had and still was going through. He decided to give me prescription for Amoxicillin for 7 days, I think he should have made out for longer as I started to feel fine near the end of the cycle.

After this I prayed that I would be better but stranger things happened, back and chest pain, trouble swallowing the drainage from my sinuses - just for the record I do not usually swallow mucus but during sleep or at times when I cannot hack it out in public. When this occurred I also had a little difficulty in breathing. I also experienced wierd things like canker sores breaking out in my mouth overnight. Pimples under my arms and rashes.

I have been to 6 different doctors and my nose, ear & throat specialist. All 6 doctors each listened to my lungs and told me they sound normal, I have had X-rays taken of the lungs, throat and sinuses, the results to come next week.

I went to a health food store because I read through the Internet about Oil of Oregano and what benefits it can have on the body.I bought this oil and started taking it internally (really go slow with it as it is very powerful). Within the first day of taking the oil the canker sores vanished, (normally it would take about a week for them to disappear). The pimples and rash disappeared litterally overnight. My coughing also diminished quite considerably and my back pain lessened so that I can sleep. I really feel this oil is what is cleaning my system and my strength is returning. I am able to go for my regular gym workouts and I have resumed my cardio.

I hardly think, if I had some grave disease that I would be able to perform my workouts or cardio and not feel winded or tired. However, there is still the clearing of the throat and the cough which follows this as well as a slight pain near my right shoulder blade. I will know next week what exactly is there as the X-ray & blood work results will come back.

Sorry, ifv this is long, but I wanted you to know that I have been experiencing similiar symptoms like you and I wanted you and everyone to read up and try Oil of Oregano as I really feel it is helping me through this.

Scott

Well John877, it's been 7 months since your post and I hope you are all better..... I woke up this A.M. (6-19-09) with a Metalic taste in my mouth (first time ever) and can't figure why ,( I have taken Vitamins & supplements for years and never had any adverse reactions ) ...I wonder if it could be the H2O2 I started ingesting a few weeks ago to clear up a sinus / lung condition that I can't seem to get rid of...Check out http://www.landrights.com/hydrogen peroxide.com....This site with it's Links contains some pretty good info....Just be sure to check with your M.D. or Homophatic Practioner for their input...

Hello,
I started Nexium about a week ago and I stopped it 2 days into taking it.It has caused the Metallic taste/smell and it is truely annoying it almost smells like ammonia.I also have a very very dry mouth/throat with these,my dr told me there is no meication to take this away.So do I live with it. I think we all need to contact the makers of these meds and tell them they need to make a cure for this taste as I am annoyed. I also take effexor xr and anti anxiety medication and that to can cause this so i have no clue as what to do.If anyone knows please contact me @tamkahler@yahoo.com thank you.
