Yes it is related to the levaquin. Stop Taking this drug!!! It has a black box warning and will damage your tendons. Levaquin is in a class of antibiotics called fluroquinolone, Levaquin has been linked to tendon damage and ruptures in the Achilles tendon, the rotator cuff (shoulder), the biceps, the hand, and the thumb. On July 8, 2008, drug safety officials imposed the government's most urgent safety warning on Levaquin and similar antibiotics, citing evidence that they might lead to serious tendon ruptures that could leave patients incapacitated and needing extensive surgery. The Food and Drug Administration ordered makers of fluoroquinolone drugs -- a potent class of antibacterials -- to add a prominent "black box" warning to their products and develop literature for patients emphasizing the risks. it is a very bad drug and took me years to figure that I couldn't take the drug or any sulfer drugs for that matter. It started for me 6 years ago and took me until this year to figure out what happened. My tendon is badly damaged and my calves cramp also! It was after bactrum (sulfer) the last go around that got me two months ago. I run and dance in ballet and show jump horses and need my ankles to work but every day is a struggle. I am in college to become a ballet teacher and every day is a wrapping challenge. If you wrap your calves and your tendons and walk fast and stretch slowly not over doing it! Take it from me or you will start over repeating the damage and making the recovery time longer. Good luck and be very careful in what you take and stay away from the sulfer and steroids drugs. keep stretching daily but back off when it starts to hurt, ice the area for ten minutes and wait for one hour. Do that as much as you can! Also message the tendons to increase the blood flow to the tendon. Tendons have very bad blood flow and messaging the tendon help the blood flow to the tendons. Again I wish you luck to get back fully to running!
