Hi Ladies, I am glad to have found this site. I got my Mirena inserted on July/08. I was very nervous and anticipated the pain, however with the 2 Tylenol that I popped prior to the appointment and the wonderful nurse I had the pain was bearable, nothing more than a bit of cramping and a little pinch and it was over. I figured we had got off to a great start, except for the uncomfortable feeling of having a foreign object in my body that lasted about a month. My partner complained that it poked him during intercourse but he understood our WHY to having this done, I was determined to make it work. Now Im a 28day cycle girl that is regular...lasting only 4-5 days. Since Mirena has been in my life I am bleeding for up to 2 weeks long, seems like my periods get longer and longer! I have experienced bacteria vaganosis, along with yeast infections. Yuck! Weight gain of 15lbs, minor stomach pains and the mood swings. This is starting to affect my life and its very frustrating...Im sitting on the fence with what to do. I go to my doctor next week and will have made up my mind by then, I cant take it anymore! Even if it were not for the irregular, looong periods, I think I would hang in there, but am tired of constantly feeling wet! and not being able to touch my partner!

I think you really need to discuss it further with your Doctor as your IUD could have migrated or embedded its self in the uterus or you may need an endometrial biopsy or check to see if you have pelvic inflamatory disease. The symptoms you discribed are not normal not for the IUD. They're not even in the rare listing for the IUD. They sound more of like some other underlying problem that could have been hiding out and then started to show its self after you had the IUD placed. I had the IUD placed a year ago, I started with horrible cramps and back pain for the first 6 months along with irregular bleeding, from 1 week to 3 weeks long with short or long breaks inbetween bleeding. then after the first 9 months my bleeding started to space out to just spotting 2-3 days, now I have no bleeding at all. I was ready to give up my first 6 months but my GYN reassured me that if I coulod just hold out for the first year (when most symptoms are) that they should all taper off and they did. I hope yours works out for you. But all in all you should definatly get checked out by your doctor.

I agree with checking with your doctor. However, stumbling upon this website, I believe your symptoms are due to the Mirena. It's like youve taken the words right out of my mouth! I've had the Mirena inserted in Jun08 and now will have it removed in 2 weeks! Everything seemed normal yet strange. I've never been on B/C so I figured this was a wise and noninvasive choice. The first strange effect was the lactating breasts. My son at the time was 3, and was last breastfed at 3mos old. I informed the nurse who performed the insertion and she immediately said it was not due to the Mirena. Second strangeness was a different smell. My husband after the first few months noticed the different smell and warned me of needing to remove the IUD. I ignored it at first because it just wasnt consistent and I wanted to believe in this Mirena I paid top dollar for. My insurance did not cover one penny of it. But I finally went to doctor and was diagnosed bacterial vaginosis for the first time in my life! I have never experienced vagina problems until the Mirena. My doctor mentioned that with the Mirena, I am more susceptible to bacterial infections. But she also brushed aside the idea of Mirena causing the inconsistent smell. This is why I am just removing it along with the many wonders associated with it. I am experiencing looooong periods of not periods. What does that mean? I would get my period for 2 days maybe, but then spot or be wet for another 2 weeks. My sex drive is normal, yet this spottin is inconvenient. I did not even think to consider Mirena to be the cause of my weight gain. Reading your entry along with everyone else is astounding. I wont claim to be highly active, however, i am great with keeping my waistline. My belly is now a belly, bloated and very hard to keep in control. I also have a dull lower backpain and the irritable moodiness.
I came across this site as I was looking for removal information. Even though I had made my appt for the removal, I was still skeptical and riding the fence as well. Really wasnt sure about giving up on it, cause that's how my mind had been thinking. I really wanted this to work out. After visiting this site, I am now convinced and feel great about my decision. I so look forward to being me again.

Hello Ladies,

I have had the Mirena for about 2 1/2 years now---I thought is was so great because i know i would forget to take the pills and not having to worry about b/c was great. Well I believe the things I am going through are related to the Mirena---i have NO sex drive, I have night sweats, I have terrible mood swings, headaches and my right shoulder hurts so bad I cannot move my arm--have been to Docs and done all kinds of tests and they do not know why my shoulder hurts me !!! Tired of taking muscle relaxers and pain meds--so I am considering taking it out soon !!
