I've been reading just now today of the side effects. What made me was I was at the dentist yesterday for a root canal. Couldn't do the original routine visit due to other worse problems had occurred. I've been on the Mirena for 9 months now. Guess what?! I've had every side effect that has been mentioned by every person. The new side effect that has not been listed is that I think it also has an effect on your teeth. The "Depot" shot has effects on your bones & teeth and I'm sure the Mirena has something to do with this year's bad review at the dentist office. In fact my habits of taking care of my teeth are great.... from drinking water all day long to now chewing sugar free gum...and since the Mirena my teeth are getting worse & worse! My dentist wanted to know what I was doing different? I didn't think of it at the time, but I have a hunch this is a source for my constant dental visits, not among the 38lb. WEIGHT GAIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! & COUNTING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! this WILL BE REMOVED AS SOON AS THE FIRST OF THE YEAR.....HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ME!!! CAN'T WAIT!!! My husband thought I was becoming a hypochondriac(if i spelled that right)!!! I

OH MY GOSH CHANA .... I have the SAME problem!!! I was at the dentist yesterday too for a ROOT CANAL and then he couldnt do it because my tooth roots look "calcified" and he wants me to see a periodontist to confirm they can't do the root canal. I haven't had ANY problems with my teeth in over 20 yrs!!! I had the Mirena removed in Oct after 1.5 yrs of torture and 40 lb weight gain ... and still struggling to drop the weight now. I am finding a lawyer ASAP - this is ridiculous!!!

I too have had EVERY side efffect. I have been told by Dr. that it can't possibly be Mirena. Chana, EVERY time I go to the dentist, I am told that because my gums are slightly swollen, red, and bleed when irritated that I MUST have a deep cleaning, which insurance only covers once a year. I brush and floss regularly, and dentist looks at me like I am lying. I read on another site that dental/gum issues are a side effect of these hormones (just like gums and teeth are sensitive during pregnancy).
I am near 40, have four children and thought Mirena was a godsend. I had one for full five years (didn't make connections that problems were from Mirena) and had second one removed today after 8 months. I look forward to being ME.
Hang in there, the New Year will be here before you know .
