I am a pediatrician and my and I take care of my one year granddaughter is with allergic rhinitis and bronchial asthma. In her past history other than her usual problems she developed an episode of ketotic hypoglycemia after a viral syndrome. I started her in Singular as she was having nocturnal episodes of cough in spite of having Pulmicort twice daily. As soon as she was started in Singulair she developed restless episodes of irritability. She never behaved that way before. She is now sleeping well all night after she had discontinued Singular.

Is there a drug to replace the Singulair?

There are MANY alternatives to Singulair. In fact, Singulair is only modestly effective as compared to inhaled corticosteroids which is quite shocking when you consider how many people this is prescribed to. Ask you doctor.....we give our son a Xoponex inhaler only when necessary.

Our 9 yr old daughter has been taking Singulair for almost 6 years. She has a very hard time sleeping and is very irritable. It seems to be getting worse. What is the best way to take her off this medication?
